Run what ya brung dragway events..Anyone done them??

As per the title folks..

Anyone done one of these events in a car or on a bike?

Real interested in doing one on the bike but would like to know if they are 'fun' events or is it all serious an heavy stuff?

Been looking at the Santa Pod site, it looks like a decent laugh.

Any advice would be sound! Thanks.

Haven't done them myself but my old man used to do them quite often (although to be honest we had a decent drag strip 10 mins away so we used it all the time).

The main aim of doing runs down the drag strip was to practice getting off the line for hill climbing.

He used a Jedi hillclimbing single seater, tuned to **** and running off pure methanol.

It was rather fast for the first 1/8 mile at least!

PS Santa Pod is good, but the drag strip at Long Marston, Warwickshire was the one we used.

Would have though it may be a bit more serious at Santa Pod, but i've seen all sorts go up the strip- from Saxo's to top fuellers!

never done one myself, but been to a few and watched while mates took their car down and was disappointed with times lol

would love to take the skyline down, but too scared of blowing expensive g/box, or very expensive engine
same spec skylines have done 11's and early 12s, all day long so im sure mine would with a good launch

im too much of a pussy though

Done a few on bikes in the past.
Can't think where now but might have been Elvington.
Good laugh, especially passenger in a sprint sidecar - one slip and your fingers are gone in the sprocket.
Have toasted a few clutches and tyres.
I have a vid of me doing a 140mph wheelie at Bruntingthorpe on a Busa, then flipping a 30mph scooter a while later - that hurt a bit.

yes mate, done loads. there will be lots of different people doing a RWYB event, from serious drag racers, to people on scooters.

good fun, pretty cheap and gets very addictive!

Go for it mate, you can get your quarter mile time and speed clocked, good fun if you like that sorta thing.  You'll be fine in whatever, people still take sh'tty, kitted out Novas.

    Unaffiliated.

Not done the RWYB event, but we used to go to the Easter and May bank holiday European Top Fuel meets. For the first couple of hours in the morning you could pay a fiver and have as many runs as you could get, depending on the length of queue. Then you got a printout after giving all your speed and reaction times.

Good fun.Used to get a good 3 or 4 runs at least each time.

This was on a 1985 model Suzuki RG500.

My mate had some videos of us doing it.He had an FZR1000,and another mate had a Yamaha 750cc chopper.

Great fun mate.Great to experience it.

Been to them loads but never had a car worth running.
Been to them at Santa Pod many times too.

I used to go to Bug Jam and Big Bang so they were mostly VW Beetles, buggies, the odd camper.

Saw some really fast times from some fairly ratty looking cars!

My brother in law and quite a few of my friends have done it and some were really into modifying drag bugs.

    Great fun.

My Dad and Uncle used to go to Santa Pod and do it a lot and a bit of proddy racing in the 80's
i loved going to watch kids on cub50's,E type jags you name it they go,but would always see some people that were maybe a bit clueless or careless and mash up clutches etc

Everyone has been in shape, but not everyone is IN shape, its about where your going not where you have been.
