SETTING UP A COMMERCIAL GYM

Hi

just curious if anyone knows or where i can put my hands on the requirements for setting up a commercial gym in terms of

Health and safety.
hygiene
staff qualifications
first aid

Have certain criteria have to be met by law? Can the gym be "inspected" by council /govt officials to ensure standards are met?

Just curious

Thanks

A few members on here run gyms so would be able to offer advice.

I would suggest that the most important thing would be location followed by rent and rates.

Over 5 employees requires a written risk assessment but you insurance provider will probably ask for you to have one anyway. The employer and employee qualification levels mainly comes down to doing everything that is 'reasonably practicable' to minimise risk.

Unless you have extensive experience of running or owning a gym / the leisure industry then a new start up would be very very difficult to pull off at the moment.

It would be risky for those who are established in the business given the current climate.

Any competition in your theoretical catchment area?
