Skipping is just as good at burning calories. It's just like running on the same spot really isn't it! The only other thing i can think of to go with skipping is Hopscotch or maybe tiggy it.

skipping is WAY more cardio than running. try skipping for 10 mins none stop, ill be darn impressed if you manage 7 mins (no resting though, and no school-girl style mini jump inbetween rope jumps!)

however, if your aim is to burn cals then your better off doing some longer period cardio, like running.

Why do boxers skip? Is it to make them lighter on there feet in the ring. I know that is also a form of cardio, but all boxers do plenty of running as well.

When I started out skipping, I could only skip non stop for like 1min so My routine was
10 sets of 1min with 1min rests in between. Then I changed it to
5 sets of 2 min with 1min or under (till I stop panting like a bitch)

when I get to like the 3rd set, the 2mins of skipping still works me over prtty good, and I have to rest for 1min; but the sets before that I normaly stop panting like a bitch after about 30-40 seconds. Now and then for the last set, I'll force out 3mins of skipping or as close as I can get. It's amazing how fast your endurance increases (I started like a month ago). I was doing it every day, but had some shin splint probs and had to lay off for a while. So, since the last month I'ce only been doing 2 or 3 times a week-with trainers on this time.

lol, got the same Shin Splints problem too... that's sort of what makes me stop, the panting isn't really an issue
I also get very hot, and i'm doing it topless....so it's not the clothes i wear :S
