Samples

Sadly with switching jobs and moving home I have struggled to fund my supplements and have found myself going without until funds allow it .... other things come first as im sure you all know .... Plus the misses would chop me in half!

I was wondering can you guys recommend companies that would be happy to send out samples of say amino's and pre workouts? I have been sent some in the past and reviewed them on sites and instagram as a way of saying thank you.

I know its a pain in the ass but its worth a shot .... Dont hate on me to much lol cheers guys :)

Most of the bulk brands sell samples on their sites mate, which I think is a great idea.

These days with so much variety in flavours, nobody wants to buy a 4.5kg bag of whey and discover they don't like the flavour. Buy some cheap samples and see what you like.

The other thing of note is that going without these supplements won't make a huge difference. I'm sure it will make some but on the whole I doubt you'd notice much at all...

taking my reps hat off for a moment, I completely agree. i think supplements offer some benefit when used as supplements. it's often when people try to substitute whole food meals with them and have high levels of expectation that protein product X will leave them looking juicy as fuark after a single tub wherein lies the biggest problem because it simply won't.

the internet is a wonderful thing, we now have access to every piece of information and the answer to every question you could possibly ever want to know, but with that comes the wealth of broscience with suggestions that you can't train without protein and you won't make any gains without protein powder X or creatine product Y and it'll just be a massive waste of time.

it might seem that we, as reps, are here solely to sell sell sell products by popping into threads to get our signature banners, we should be as responsible as any other forum member to remind people who may be new to bodybuilding or simply don't know that supplements aren't the be all and end all of nutrition in fitness. they have their place but there's nothing, bar maybe creatine, that can't be gotten from a rich, varied diet.
this isn't possible for everyone, we don't live perfect lives, and supplements can plug some gaps there, but they should never be used as a substitute for whole food sources.

    chicken > protein powder

getting back to the OP, i get the sense he's asking for full products as opposed to sample sachets, given the line about reviewing them for blogs & websites as a thank you.

In which case it's unlikely. Most products have great reviews already and he'd need to add value to them with his beyond a case of (without meaning to sounds unkind) 'some random guy'.

exacto mundo. might work with new products where there's no reviews but that's about your lot.

The other company I do a moderators thing for (elsewhere) does offer customers credit towards well written reviews of products. They also send out samples on request. But a full size tub?? Very rare. I do get (and more so used to get a fair few when I had my magazine) the odd one. As an example I've written a bit on BSN's NoExplode 3.0 recently (sent to me via that mod position).

the giveaways on bb.com for american/canadian customers is crazy. obviously the big american companies have a much bigger marketing budget, but there's threads where they're giving away 250 full size tubs of pre-workouts etc. for reviews.

a recent one with BSN (which wasn't fully taken up either) was offering a free tub of no explode 3.0 and a free 908g tub of their new whey DNA (basics range) (so each person got a tub of each) and the customer base there are that saturated with giveaways, only 19 people replied for 30 packages.

    19 out of 30??

Yet it was the US market that started asking for customer info on samples at the shows.

    Cheers for the replies guys!

I for one always tell my clients and people who generally ask me my opinion on supplements that you do not need them! You can get everything you need from your diet and coffee is always a handy preworkout or some caffeine pills but I know for a fact that i struggle to get my protein numbers up through my diet so a shake is a handy way to get around this and i love the effects of a good pre workout.

I know its a placebo effect and I tell myself that when im not taking a good 'pre' that i can train just as hard without it, Its just a mental thing. but again its always great to have something there to give you that kick up the ass that in some cases caffeine alone just cant do.

I went through something similar last year. there was a 3 month period where money was tight. So i went for about 2 months without supps. Never saw that much change i ate alot more eggs haha.
One thing i have noticed is i use less protein powder now. Wish is a good thing before i use to have 2-3 shakes a day now i have 1 after training and 1 late in the evening if im feeling pekish but most the time its just 1.
Getting proetin in with omlettes for breakfast where i use to have a bowel of shredded wheat and a shake.
Must be better for me than shakes. 5kg of powder lasts me alot longer now.

Unflavoured WPC is cheaper protein than whole foods.  Not sure what other supplement you would need other than that.  Maybe this is a good time to ween yourself off pre-workout supps?

And also pre workouts contain a lot of other things which obviously coffee does not
