Scared of eating fats....

Hi all, i don't know if it is just me but i am always a bit scared of eating fats, the good kind, as i believe it may hinder my progress to get rid of the fat that is already on my body.

Is it important that i get good types of fat in my diet, and also do i need to limit the type of good fats that i take in? ? ?

Thanks

Gaz.

fat should consist of around 20-30% of daily cal intake. Fat does not make you fat too many cals does. If you omitted fat from your diet and only ate protein and carbs you could still very easily add bodyfat.

Is it true that the more 'good' fats that i eat, the more the body will actually want to let some go, as it is realising that i am giving it more so it can afford to burn the fat off? ? ?

In a word yes.. EFA intake will facilitate fat loss - plant based omega 3 (not fish oils for this effect), alpha-linolenic acid, has been shown to directly affect gene expression, upregulating the coding for fat burning genes, downregulating the fat production gene and upregulating your thermogenesis gene. So you body is better able to burn fat, less likely to store fat, and better regulates it's own temp, again burning fat. There's an enormous list of benefits that can derived from decent EFA intake, the upper limit is down to what your body can process, and is quite individualistic. Some people can only add small amounts of oil to their diet (<30ml/day), others thrive on much more (>90ml/day) - clearly bodyweight will affect intake too.
