Self Pity

Has self pity ever helped you or anyone you know in anyway? Or is it a completely destructive disposition that can have no benefits to anyone whatsoever?
Is it addictive?

Wallowing in self pity/self loathing after getting binned by a bird is what got me started in the gym, and lead to the most productive few years of my life. So it has been helpful for me.

I think self pity often stems from 'self preservation'.

It can make us learn and shape us in many positive way I feel.

I think it's an inevitable emotion; I think everyone will feel self-pitying at some point. The desire to better your situation after a period of self-pitying could be useful  I suppose.

But largely I'd say it is a useless emotion and people should fight the urge at all times.

I don't bother with it, i turn it into aggression and put it to good use, focus on something constructive instead and put my energy towards that.

I've never been one to cry about anything or spend time wondering what might have been, it serves no purpose other than to make you even more miserable.

Life goes on and so must you, they're the facts... no point dwelling over events, sh1t happens you just have to keep moving forward.

'Self loathing strangles me, but I'll endure another day'

I'd say it's a usless emotion in the sense that it hasn't helped me in the slightest, just made me a miserable cnut
