I get the same issue. I'm a softwate developer, so spend a lot of time sitting. I also get pain in the calves and hams after running and then sitting for a prolonged period. Trick is to get up every 20 minutes or something. If you have any reading or review material, walk around the office (or even outside) whilst reviewing it on a tablet (or print it if no tablet or wifi policy does not allow it).
You could also try sitting on a fitness ball instead of a chair. I'm trying to get our office to introduce them.
Or, your could ask for a standing desk? Again, trying to get my office to get some of these.
