Should I train tonight or give it a miss

Been training for only 3 months, doing a 3 day push/pull/legs split and making good progress, increasing the weight almost every session, often feel quite tired on rest days.

I have 3 days off from today and I need to dig out 30 feet x 10 feet of clay to a depth of 6 inches, lay around a ton and a half of hardcore (all to be barrowed 200 foot down my garden), handmix over a ton of bedding mortar and lay 120 18" square paving slabs as a base for a new shed and the wife's greenhouse.

Tonight is my "pull" night which I find the hardest, Saturday is my legs day which is usually OK.

Should I train anyway or give it a miss as the graft I have to do will knacker me anyway and must count as good training?

Really into training at the moment and hate the thought of missing a session but if training whilst doing all that physical work will bugger me up for next weeks training it might make sense to miss the couple of sessions.

Any thoughts/advice?

    Train.

If you need to adjust poundages or volume then do that.

Sounds like your back and bi's are going to have quite a workout from all that manual work, particularly if you don't normally engage in that type of thing.

I'd therefore give the training a miss for a few days, get the job done and then get back to training.

You've only been training for three months, your enthusiasm is great but if there's one thing I've learned it's the imprtance of trying to keep everything in perspective. Missing one or two days at your stage isn't going to ruin your progress, in fact, it could be the making of you.

If you'e grafting all day digging, lifting and throwing things about then the i reckon last thing you need to do is hit the gym after that when you're only 3 months in! Depends on how tough you are though...

Commitment to the training is a good attitude to take though buddy, If i was you I'd play it by ear and see how you feel, If you feel like you can put a decent session in after the hard graft the do it!

i know if i'm grafting all day i'll usually force myself down anyway but that's just down to me being stubborn

the only way you can asnwer is by asking if the training will affect the work you have to do. if so then skip the session, if not crack on.

Stuff going to the gym, I'm gonna jack my job in and start laying shed bases for a living, that's the best workout I've had.

Dug almost solidly for 4 hours (heavy clay) on Friday after carting 120 slabs, 1.5 ton of hardcore and another 1.5 ton of sand/cement 200 foot down my garden, when I stripped off to get a shower I hardly recognised myself in the mirror, never been so pumped.

Saturday morning, arms, legs, back, chest, abs, in fact everywhere was aching like mad. Easier day finishing digging, laying out and laying/compacting hardcore.

Sunday morning, ache even more, got 1.5 ton of mortar to hand mix and 120 slabs to lay today, deep joy.

Gave the gym a miss Thursday night, good move, hope to have recovered sufficiently for my "push" session on Tuesday.

My garden is over half an acre, if I slab all that I'll be massive in no time, plus no more grass to cut.

    Give it a miss.

Your body thrives on change and shaking up your routine etc.

Based on the above I remember years ago heading to the gym but realising the game was on to which one of the guys said 'why don't we really surprise our bodies and go to the pub instead' - which we did!

Used to have a ride on but getting rid of 6-8 bin bags of grass every week was just too much hassle, I live 8 miles from the nearest dump and the thieving council who shaft me for sh1t loads of council tax cos I have a big garden collect one wheelie bin of green waste a fortnight, I could fill 6 easily.

Why the f**k do I have to pay more cos I have a big garden, which means I must therefore produce more green waste only to not have anymore collected than people with a small garden who pay less, persumably cos they have a smaller garden?

If you have more than 2 kids round us you can get another landfill bin, cos more people produce more waste, OK so bigger gardens produce more waste so I want another green bin.

Councils are just robbing useless tw4ts, If I don't like the service/product from a shop/supplier I go elsewhere and they lose my business, trouble is the council have no competitors, no accountability and we have no f**cking choice other than cough up and put up with the sh1t service.

I have litlle sympathy with the inefficient councils who are getting their budgets slashed now, they've took the piss for years and deserve it.

Anyway, I've now got a mulching mower so I don't have to collect the grass and get a smelly car going back and forth to the dump.

I've also got high blood pressure after that rant, not much pisses me off but ****, lazy, inefficient, money wasting, useless c*nts like councils really grip my ****.

Rant over, off to mow the grass.

Take a full week off. Ideally you should take a full weak-off at least once every 12 weeks, and sooner if you feel fatigue setting in due to high training intensity/volume.

Thanks big D, gonna go for a pb on bench press tonight and imagine I'm crushing the last breath out of a spotty, four eyed turd of a council planner by squashing him up against the ceiling. That should be good enough motivation.
