Shoulders making cracking noises, eek !

Beginner, 33yr old, just returned to training after absense of 6 months.
I did have a little trouble with my shoulders after doing flyes badly...that cleared up though. Just done first Military presses and got quite a loud cracking noise in both shoulders as the weight was lifted. I also tried rolling my shoulders after and got a much fainter cracking in various positions.
Could this be to do with age in general ? e.g. i've noticed my ankles crack quite a bit in the mornings going to the bathroom (i've done a lot of running over the years)

Safe to continue ??

Don't know much about that, but I can tell you that I used to get it as a beginner (age 17/18) and since then I haven't noticed it happening for ages!

I get a clicking in one of my shoulders, and sometimes a sharp shooting pain, but i broke it and tore the ligaments last april

I think most people have 'clicks' going on with joints, had you done any warm up/stretching before hand ?

perhaps start with lower weights until your muscles around the joints are stronger, maybe putting uneccesary strain on your joints?

hi mate, are you warming up beforehand? this is usually the likely cause of cracking/crunching joints. (insufficient lubricant) a thorough warm up and stretch should alleviate the problem(if your not doing so already) all the best

As I initially take the weight when doing military press my shoulders crack as my hands are just below shoulder level. I only do military press down to my chin as I would find it too stressful on the shoulders to do them lower.

a buddy of mine who i usually work out with says that on military press you only need to go to parallel with your elbows on military press. this is what he does and he's pretty strong and cut i think.

ditto comments above about warming up - my sometimes click before I'm fully warmed up.

I wouldnt worry about it. I actually went to the doctors once about my hip cracking in a certain place - wether I was warmed up or not. There was no pain, and he said that the 'cracking' would alleviate somewhat once the muscles developed a bit more. The cracking has gone now - whether it's to do with muscle development I dont know. Hopefullly the same'll happen to your shoulders.

Too deep on descent on the Military..if Military press continue to aggravate, switch to dumbell press. Some external/shoulder horn rotations to warm and strengthen shoulder assistance muscles helps.
