I do shrugs twice a week, 4x8 with D/B in Shoulders day which help with grip strength, and 5x5 with bench press m/c to achieve a greater loading.
I have only been doing this a couple of weeks now but find that traps are responding quite well and can handle weights far in excess of my grip strength with d/bs.

When people do barbell shrugs do you lean forward or have another tip? ? ?

I just ask because when i do barbell to the back then my backside gets in the way, but if i do it to the front, something else gets in the way.

lol I have to bend forward somewhat while doing them behind, my fat ass limits the ROM quite abit

its ok dv, i thought the same.

With the dumbells i cant get as much weights as i would with a barbell that's all, i did try it with an EZ bar but wasnt having any of that either.

Nope. Maybe your not relaxing your shoulders during DL?
For traps i find pull overs, Rows and shrugs are the best.
My traps are massive. Its really sick. I wish i could build arms like my traps grow lol

OMG lol. Thats the worst thing about BB shrugs.

They have a modified BB you basically stand inside of it and hammer grip. I dont like the way it makes your arms go outward. But i do find it hammers you in a different way. Also protecting the boys is always a good thing

I do my shrugs on the Smith, ive seen ppl doing them from behind their back ... from ass and up ... i do it infront of me and my fists come up in a straight line while my elbows point out the way, forming a triangle when i get higher. Is this the right technique? How many Reps do you guys do for shrugs - my goal is strength, im doing 5x5 [?]
