"Singles for Size"

Did anybody see the article in the bodybuilding magazine "IRONMAN" titled "Singles for Size"?

I was at La Guardia airport a few days ago waiting for my flight and started to browse through the magazine stand. The bodybuilding magazines are like comics for me, and I was amazed to see this article in Ironman. Do you think someone's been reading "Dinosaur Training"?

What was a brief outline of the article, if you'd be so kind.

seems like high volume training is starting to become popular with the masses again. i've gotten a few interested comments while doing deadlifts lately and noticed that some of the 12 sets-of-curls guys are starting to go with a heavier, one exercise approach. who knows, maybe it will make my gym a little more tolerable, lol.

The article claims that singles are a contrarian way to add size and outlines a basic routine using singles. Nothing special.

My biggest problem with the article was that it didn't mention the importance of not jumping directly into singles. Everyone should do at least 6 months of 5x5 and another 3-6 months of 3x3 or 5/4/3/2/1 before trying a program based around singles. I'm afraid some 10-rep pumper is suddenly going to jump into singles and get injured.

If you have questions regarding diet, I'd recommend posting in the diet forum. There are people there that know much more than I do. I'm always happy to answer your questions, but you'll get more help in that forum.

Almost any type of weight training will add some degree of size; however, in my experience, 5-6 reps is best for muscular growth.

Franky I have been using your 5x5 routine for 3 months now and have found it to be extremely successful. Now , I don't believe I am going to say this, but if I wish to limit the amount of muscle growth. Do I use higher reptitions with your routine or just keep the amount of weight the same or for that matter increase the weight modestly?

I enjoy your routine so I don't want to switch routines, I just wanted to alter it ( a bit ) if possible to limit the amount of muscle growth?

Don't blast me on this one body builders!!! LOL

I'd train the exact same just eat slightly less...

Well I say I'd - I wouldn't want less muscle growth, but I'm sure you have your reasons.

    Wormdoggy:

Ditto what Brizo said. If you want to limit your growth, just eat as many calories as you burn.

I don't think moving to higher reps or training with less load are good choices. To maintain motivation we all need to have goals in the gym. For you, if it's not to get bigger, then make it to get stronger.

As often noted, information well advised and taken.

    Thank you both.
