So pre season starts for us today...

Who is playing a sport (Rugby) :) and has got pre season today? Are you looking forward to it? Are you ready to impress? Do you feel in shape for it? Any niggles bothering you? Do you know what your first session has lined up for you?

Just thought id start a thread to discuss, as it would be interesting to hear other peoples thoughts about it, and stories of previous pre season times.

Iv got rugby pre season training starting tonight, an i feel tired as i got to sleep at 2am, iv not eaten yet!!!! Iv suddenly lost my appetite today, i feel dehydrated an my back and bum is aching a little from previous workout. Not good eh....

I'm undecided as to who I want to play for. There's 3 teams I've got pretty good reason to go with very near me.

    1) I played a few games right at the end of the season for my most local team but I'm not so sure about going back. They were definately a good laugh to drink with. Quite dirty though and although I'd be on there team I don't like that sort of play.

    2) A higher league player tried to 'recruit' me to play for them after I played him in a charity match but I'm not so sure about it. Have some bad history with the club which I'm sure some players will still remember.

    3) The club I played for from 10 years old to 17-18. Got good history and a lot of good friends there but they're not in a league as high as number 2.

So can't make up my mind atm. Especially since I'm reconsidering Uni so I'd leave before the proper season anyway.

I would of gone with my uni team but they are doing trials and apparently are very very picky, yet they have only just started up and are in yorkshire 5c, but they are "apparently" very good and have been promoted and are looking to move up the ranks pretty quick, but i chose the team im starting with now and they are in yorkshire division 2, which is about 6 divisions higher than the uni team lol. Very good setup there too..

I made a comeback at end of last season. Switched clubs this season to a lower level but good plans for the club. I have been doing their strength training for the past month & we are starting back with tip tonight.

Lets start buildin' some hurtin' bombs

You must go to the Met ste? I played them in the cup last year, they turned up with video cameras to analyse the game and were coached by Colin Stephens (ex Wales fly half), they're likely to get to the top divisions over the coming years, pretty much the next rung down from Leeds Tykes academy as far as I can see.

We started our pre-season a couple of weeks ago - hard work but I love it, nothing better than starting the new season fitter than your opposition!

I had a half hour kip when I got home, till 6pm, which gives you some idea of how 'up for it' I was.
    Started at 7pm, for 2hrs.

New club and compared to the last club, it was friggin hardcore!
I monstered out the situps and pressups easily, but we did a section of running across a field, with your random partner on your back, in a firemans carry. I'm 11.5 stone and ended up with a 17.5 stone prop.

I got him up easy enough and started to break out into a slight jog near the start and then my legs dealt me a reality check and I had to fast walk the rest of it.

Going to take some serious persevernce to get through this. My cardio fitness was severely lacking, but by the end was probably 3 times as good. So it clearly works. The session was very well planned out!

    ............my quads hurt!

    My cardio is lagging too.....

Celt - Yes mate, i do go to the met. An yes they have a good team in a poor division, an will move up pretty dam fast. There are a few people with attitudes there from what i can see, so i didnt bother with the trials and decided on going to west park instead. I do train in the free weights room at uni which is where the leeds met rugby boys train too. Are you from round these parts then?

I am mate - lived in Headingley for many years, now in Wakefield area and still play in Yorkshire leagues.

Don't blame you joining West Park - a better option all round and yes, there are plenty with attitudes in the met team, we had a nice 30 man brawl with them last year

You guys ever come across Stanley Rodillians? I played for them for years and keep threatening a comeback but live a bit far away now.

You did gain far too much fat though,I mean, you're not muscular at all, you're just a fat mess.

Our preseason started last week.  I can't train however as my wife works on training nights and I need to look after the nipper.

However, with my level of skill and experience, I don't need to train.  Just turn up and play.  Helps the club is completely desperate for players though and I've moved to prop so fitness isn't a necessity.

    Not really lol

Lower reaches of Scottish national leagues.  Games are still very competitative and physical though as there are a smattering of good players through some of the teams, however many clubs do seem to be struggling for players, even at a higher level.  I'd love to give more commitment to training but the body and personal life just don't allow it any more.

I'm quite envious of anyone doing a tough pre-season to be honest.  Theres nothing like it for getting you in the right mindset.
