Sorr if asked before Swiming

I do cardio @35 mins 3 x per week after weights usualy bike or cross trainer or treadmill and it seems to be working ok .. however thought about swiming and decided to try it last week now in not the greatest swimmer and tend to do the brest stroke .. so the effort seemed to mainly through my chest and arms and legs ... I could only manage a length and then stoped and then another length but only lastes @15 mins

what I want to know is my HB went up considerably would that have meant I would be burning protein rather than fat ? obv at the end of the day the objective is fat but I want to make sure that swiming is not going to do more harm than good (I know its a very good all round excercise but im using it to burn off fat

so if anyone could advise id appreciate it

Slightly off-topic, but someone said to me recently "If swimming is good for fat-loss, then explain whales to me?"
