Squats and the Legpress

Will doing squats also increase my leg press strength and power? Or will I just get great results in squats. I've been told a few times that if you wanna excel in a certain exercise, you're better off just doing that one. Anyways, I'll be glad if anyone can answer this question.

Squats are very versatile and a great lower body strength builder, so yes I say they would. Why would you want to improve your leg press anyway?

Yes, I put 60 kilos on my legpress in 2 months by doing squats and olympic lifts.

If your goal is to improve your squat train your posterior chain and squat. Power/strength comes from the rear of the body. You can still input leg presses into your routine from time to time to avoid certain muscle imbalances

The reason I'm doing leg press is because some competition that they're having at my school.

GoldenArrow, you mean KG right? Sorry I'm used to lbs lol. Anyways, your leg press increased 60 kg? And how much did your squat strength increase?

Not as much! ...Front Squats went from 100kg to 115 for 5x5, Leg Press went from 340 to 400 kg for 8 reps.

I almost always get doms from Squats, but when I throw in a few heavy sets of Leg Press to boot I can hardly get my pants on the next day :)
Nor sure if thats a good thing or not...
