Squats make you short

hi again,

look, bare people are telling me that squats and generally any exercise that involves lifting weight above your head will decrease your height over time say like a year or two..

i need to know if this is true, because i really dont want to lose any height, i have little of it as it is..

please, i need people to answer who are 30+ and have been trainning with squats and similar heavy weight exercise who can testify to this..

it has happened, but only with really heavy wights and doing them to competition standard for a career, i remeber some guy on you bet who could hold a mini on his head shrunk about an inch over 5 years or something stupid, and one of the lecturers at my college shrunk an inch over 20 or so years of weightlifting to national competition standard but for the average weightlifter i cant really see it happening to an extent where it will be noticeable

Perhaps there is some truth to this. Before I started training I was around 5ft 10½" in height. Now, 2½ years later Im just a tad under 5ft 10. Its worth noting though that Im nearly 50% heavier than before I started training. Carrying all that extra weight is bound to have some effect.

It's bollox. I'm fifty and I'm the same height as when I started at the age of twenty three. Twenty seven years squatting has made zero difference.

Squats are thre King of all exercises, and they are damned hard, this just illustrates the lengths some people will go to, to try to justify not doing them.

As far as I know, forgiveness is for the benefit of the person doing the forgiving, not the one being forgiven

I'd be sceptical of those measurements. That's a lot of height loss in 2 1/2 years.

Wipe the sand outta yer fanny and get in the f***ing squat rack!

If you became shorter it was simply deteriorating posture....curvature of spine

What he said. Since I started correcting my posture people keep saying they are surprised I'm still growing at 19. I haven't - I just stand properly! Have you ever noticed some elderly people are smaller than in their younger years? Due to squatting at 75 years old with osterperosis? I think not...
