Strength (and size).. help..

hey..
im 20yrs old.. 176cm.. 69-70kg.. about 10% bodyfat..
been working out on and off for a year now..
increased in size and strength but not up to standard..
currently doing 3x8 push,lower,pull.. (wish i knew about this earlier than few months ago)

but anyway.. i got a week holiday comin up..
when i get back i wanna concentrate on strength while still gaining size..

its a BillStarr routine that looks like so..
mon - Squat. Bench, Row
wed - Squat, Incline, Dead
fri - Squat, Bench, Row
.. 5x5.. thats just the jist of it.. check link below..

exact routine is..
http://www.geocities.com/elitemadcow1/5x5_Program/Linear_5x5.htm

Will my strength progress nicely?
With proper diet would i gain a fair amount of muscle?
should i do the "assistance" exercises?

Thanks alot.. all comments welcome..

    oh and also..

can i use dumbbells instead of barbells for bench press and row?
just to keep symmetry and to give like even strength kinda..

    Thanks..

It's a very good program that should build considerable strength and size if you do it to the letter.

On assistance exercises - do them as long as you feel you're up to it. If you feel like the main lifts have taken it out of you, don't be afraid to drop them. There shouldn't be any reason why you wouldn't be able to do them, only remember that they are assistance - the big barbell lifts are the most important aspect.

Don't use dumbbells instead of barbells. It's all very well using DBs if you already have some kind of uneven development but there's no need to use them if you don't. You can use more weight with barbells and barbells are what the program is built on. Do what it says.
