    Well, first of all.. How strong are you?

    You need to be thinking in teams of deadlifting a minimum of 230kg+ and pressing 90kg overhead before you can start training the events. Go to a contest and watch, take it all in. Talk to some people there, then look for a novice contest to enter and start training the events.

    It is the hardest strength sport to train for as there is so much variety in what is required. It is worth it though as its the most fun you can have with your trousers on! :D

    where abouts do you live? cos there are numerous comps being held all over the place, as Colin.A said, go to comps and watch, by seeing whats required you can jusdge things better.

    The basic standard events that you see in most comps;
    A pressing event be it log, viking press, barrels, thick bar, dumbell or a mixture of these.

    A static lift , deadlift for max or for reps - be it partial or on a thick bar, Car deadlift, Fishing pole, machine squat etc

    Moving with weight, Farmers walks is a standard event but you can have carrying objects ie stones for max distance, Yoke, sled drags you name it you could be asked to move it.

    A loading event is another very common event format. Atlas stones, barrels, sacks, rocks or a mixture of all.

    A pull event, vehicle pull, sled drag

    Then there are the more specialised events ie, Conans wheel, Frame carry, fingals fingers and medleys that can combine any of the above.

    Best bet is to turn up strong and give it a go
