Sucking up to Bosses at work.

Do you see this in your employment?

Do you see other work colleagues sucking up to your boss and how does it make you feel?

Do you do it and what do you do.

I've seen it in work over the last number of months, team leaders sucking to their boss, doing all the fake laughing at their stupid jokes etc....

Do we all need to do it in some degree to help with career progression?

My dads my boss lol, but yes other workers do it to an extent  I guess. I think its more a principal of respect and politeness rather than sucking up par se.

happens at the consultancy companu i work at, it's something i will never do and as a result of refusing to be part of the 'yes' culture where everyone tells the MD what he wants to hear rather than the cold hard facts i've now got a bit of a frosty relationship with the MD.

Ive seen it. I think it depends what the boss is like as a person. Some people hate it when people suck up to them, others love it.

No, i'm mostly a complete **** to anybody in a position of power that's forgotten where they've came from.... which is the majority unfortunately. The ones who remember you don't need to suck up to as they're on your level.

For this reason alone my career will probably never go beyond this point, i can live with that though, I'm not a yes man or an arse licker and i never have been nor will I be.

That type of behaviour makes me sick, If you can't get to where you need to be just by doing your job well and on merit alone i don't want to be part of it.

Some people will suck metaphorical cock and others won't.

It happens here a lot, one of the Directors has a bit of the David Brents about him and is always telling his "Hilarious" stories which go on forever and TBH are quite boring most the time, and get repeated again and again.

It seems those that have worked here for ages simper along willingly and thats the normal mode of behaviour.

Now I have been here for a year I ususally say things like "Sorry Dave Im too busy to listen to one of your never ending parables" or "You've already told me this 6 times"

Some of the longer serving staff have said to me things like "I can't believe you talk to him like that", whereas I think if the lines are blurred and you want to be my mate, I will tell you when you are boring me.

Sometimes though, even I do humour him, after all he is my boss.

My username has nothing to do with my religious beliefs.....

I'm quite often on disciplinary's with my boss, so perhaps some sucking up is on order!

I've suffered for not cozying up to managers... have missed out on plum shifts and steady work because of refusing to play the game.

We do not forgive. We do not forget.

In my business nobody gives a **** about that sort of thing. It's how good you are, pure and simple, and people actually look down upon arse-lickers.

Yep its rife within the company I work for.......Its more of a get the job done at all costs, even if that means that the safety of the blokes doing the job could suffer......me and a few of my colleages are looked upon as troublemakers because if the rules written for our safety arent followed then jobs get knocked on the head and that goes down like a turd in a swimming pool, but at the end of the day we cover our arses so there can be no comeback on us!.... Makes me sick people getting on for kissing ring rather than being recognised for being good at their job, but thats the way it will always be I suspect.

Same as sillynarbie it doesn't go on in the business I am in.
If someone tried it, it wouldn't go down well.
Of course people defer to the boss, they do show respect.

I would hate to work in a place where you could get ahead by doing that tbh.
