Sydney Siege

More innocent people being held for long periods of time against their will with the constant fear of being murdered.

The terrorists have no future if they give themselves up, they'll be inprisoned for life.... - they're probably so brainwashed into believing some ridiculous fairy tale about a virgins etc if they murder innocent people that they will probably end this seige in the worst way possible.

I prey that the counter terrorists teams manage to stop them before something terrible happens... hopefully this will be possible given that there's only one terrorists inside.

How do you think this siege will end?

One hostage will be killed IMO before the storming of the building.
You cannot reason with someone who feels they have nothing to lose and embraces death as a blessing in relation to their religion if they kill an 'infidel'.

Dead right Trident. In fact I think we need a new thread about how heavy handed the commandos were and how they're to blame for the deaths.

Just watching the coverage on the news.....they've got clear views of him through the window with no one blocking what could have been a decent shot at him.....why would they have not taken this opportunity?

    This...

I'm not expert by any means, but he could be armed with an explosive device, he could have someone else on site with him, or even off site waiting to trigger something...

Although I'm all for blowing his head clean off his shoulders, there has to be some serious stuff going on behind the scenes to make this clear.

Agree completely except that cowardice/bravery has no part in all this.  The perp thought he was doing his duty, and I'm not exactly crying buckets that that murderer is down.  Those civilians died for nothing.

That said, tens of thousands of civilians died as a direct cause of equally senseless allied actions in Iraq/Afghanistan.  They still have a LOT more to be peed off with than we do.

agree , he was doing it on the back of an anti Western agenda , which is one where it invades, topples , occupies and steals resources from places like Iraq (based on a lie) , Afghan  , Libya ,   Syria and Iran on the list .  Blowback's a bitch RIP to those who died.

But events like this take place across the Islamic World on a daily basis.

ISIL certainly arnt acting due to anti West sentiments and the majority of events are sectarian or religious based.

The mass slaughter of Christians is based on the fact that they commit the crime of 'shirk' which in Islam is a crime worse than murder.  Extremists act upon this alone.

Agree that the West has removed leaders that kept order in lands of Chaos, but the World simply holding the 'West' responsible for the action of the mass of extremists and their supporters World wide is rather unrealistic when we look at history.

The Taliban in Pakistan have an estimated 10% of the population who consider them to be a 'positive' influence on the Country.  That's about 18 Million people.  Before the 'Drone' program it has been polled as being higher.
