Well shoulder started aching after the first heavy flat bench,
but nothing serious. Only did 1 heavy set declines and
nothing additional on pain amount. But I could tell if I pounded
a few sets od inclines or more that shoulder was going to flare up,
so I stopped while I was ahead. I will pound tri/shoulders on Thurs

scruffy - I notice our lifts on Deads/Squats are close, but you
blow me away on bench!!! Do you powerlift? What methods you use?
Whats your height/weight? Coach says I have a lot more potential on my bench. I think after contest I may stop bench for a few weeks, then start back on a mission LOL

7.15.03 SQUAT DAY
Felt so-so...started sipping on a Rip Force Drink to get me going

Did some stretching and warmups then:
185x5, 225x5, 275x3, 315x3, 345x3 was feeling good with this
so I decided to try a max......as I only have 3 1/2 more weeks to comp!! Went with 365......about as easy a 345!! Went on to 385.
Nailed it!! Asked spotter to go with me for second rep....weaved a bit and he had to straighten me up, but still that was a personal best in open floor squat. Still have not got my suit in yet, that should make me even more confident! Originally I was thinking
375 for max....then 400.....now I'm thinking with suit 425 should be achievable. So now my goals for meet will be 525/425/325

the problem i had was that dut to knee injuries and lower back pain i could not bench or squat for the best part of 7-10 years, so i used to bench a lot and just got real strong, since september i have started squatting and deadlifting from scratch (just the bar) with the help of ozzy i have devoloped my lower back strength so i get no pain what so ever, the knees are fine now and i am enjoying it, i am training westside at the moment and will indeed compete next year, even for the experiance, i am hoping for a 250-260kg squat and a 270-280kg dead by the end of the year, i have nearly pulled the 240kg dead so i think it might be a poss..
regarding the bench, i did not use to flat bench at all, built all my strength from heavy declines and militry press, close grip bench, i have pushed 220kg on the smith machine and locked out 220kg in the power rack, once i get my bench shirt sorted i will be pushing over the 200`s

Well. from my miniscule experience I gained 20-25 lbs from it.
Some of my team members who are into bigger weights and have used shirts for years claim 50+lbs more with shirt. Have to look at what
federations allow - single ply, double, denim...I use the single ply beginners shirt ($40) Its allowed in almost all federations. And from what I'm told using shirt when going heavy helps save wear and tear on shoulders.

Knighty - lbs :(

6.18.03 DEAD DAY
Tonight was supposed to be a double on last set,
but coach said go ahead and just do a single, then try another single.
2 warmups, 225x5, 315x5, 365x3, 430x1, 475x1,
then tried 500.......UUUUUGGHHHHH..could not get past my knees or it would have been toast! Supposed to try it next week anyhow and it will go up :)

6.21.03 Bench Day
warmup
135x10, 185x8, 225x5, 275x1...then tried 300 and had a little trouble with it :( I knew I could get it soI added 5 more....305..Made a steadier lift and went fairly easy, so I went for broke and PB of 315....I however did not make it. I just started back Saturday on creatine after 2 months off, so this should help. I normally increase bench
by 20 lbs and squat/deads by even a little more whilst on it.

7.22.03 Squats Again!
Did a few minutes on bike and stretched, then
135x10, 185x5, 235x5, 295x3, 365x1, 405x2!!!
New PB from rack and still no squat suit yet.

Decided to throw in some heavy rack pulls to help me pull my 500 dead on Friday.
Did 225x5, 405x5, 500x1, 530x1, 550x1...tried 565
and got it but grip let go just as I locked out...damn pansy gym don't allow any chalk!!
Then dropped to 500 and did 5 reps :)

Very abbreviated but I can't overtrain this close to contest.

Funny you asked....I had off work Wednesday, so I skipped my cardio and done some work around the house and went fishing a few hours. I felt tired as sh1t. Slept in Thursday and skipped Shoulder/Tris because I was just knackered! Well its Friday again...heavy deads tonight. I did about a
1/2 hour lightest back routine this morning and still felt whipped. I hope I haven't peaked too soon!! Tonight is the heaviest night of entire program where I determine what my attempts will be......hope I have a little something left to give.....I just don't know.....got me a B-12 energy drink to help pick me up tonight.

6.29.03 Squats
Tonight was supposed to be the BLOW OUT night!
I lifted with the team for firs time on squats, so I was a little nervous.
Did a few warmups, then 225x5, 315x3. then 350 x1, got it without much trouble, but coach said I need to go a little deeper. DAMN! I tried again
and had to basically pull my hips down...they need some more flexibility.
Second attemp good... Then tried a 380. Tried to go really deep, but I went too slow and stalled a bit and spotters jumped all over it. Tried it again
and this time I started slow and just before parallel I made a quicker DROP then exploded up ..Got it, but it was tough. He said don't try anymore sets until next week..maybe a 400 before my rest week. So I'm sort of bummed about weight.

I thought about it later and said SH1T...look what I have accomplished in
16 months and felt better...even though some team members(been PLfor several years are squatting 100+ lbs more than me :(
I started back lifting on 4/02 after 2 years off. Weights at that time were:
Bench 205x1
Squat - approximately 250-275...never tried a max and never really squatted.
Deadlift - Never did it either but was capable of 400x1 from the start

NOW 7.30.03
Bench...315 for sure
Squat....very close to a legit 400
Dead...500x1, 400x10
