TKD: School boy error?

5th day of TKD, and my energy is sapped (plus a mild cold isn't helping), so I have been drinking the odd can of sugar-less, sucralose-based energy drink to perk me up.

Is the associated insulin rise completely counter productive? Obviously it is going to blunt glucagon levels but for roughly how long?

(BTW, I don't think I have actually reached ketosis yet, if that makes any difference)

how will drinking sugarless energy drink spike insulin mate? Whats it got left, sucralose and some caffeine, not much for a spike at all id say. If youre worried then get some proplus as that is just caffeine in tablet form

How much sucralose is in it? ? ?

Sucralose and sugar free is a bit of a contradiction in my opinion.

true Gaz but for the amount of sucralose it will take to flavour 150ml of energy drink were talking under 1g of malto to act as a carrier for the sucralose. If its not carried then its mcg of sucralose liquid as its 600 times sweeter than sugar

It is precisely 4 calories! (half a gram of CHO according to the tin). Its actually sweetened with aspathame sorry. Full of rubbish, but its tastes good and gives me a decent kick in the d1ck at work.

TIO, ProPlus contains glucose mate (albeit small amounts).

I didn't say spike, I hate that word! I believe the small amount of sweetener would mess things up a little, though I'll be happy if thats not the case!

AFAIK you need more than 1/2g of carbs to mess up Ketosis, generally in excess of 40g i believe in starchy or sugary carbs will throw you out of it

Yeah I get your point, but I was considering the insulin/glycagon issues rather than carbs. I guess your right, I won't let it worry me until I hear different!

I Googled PP and I can't find it containing glucose http://www.auravita.com/products/AURA/ROCH10792.asp

Dunno where I got that from?? I looked on the back of a box and saw it, but perhaps it was a supermarket home-brand??

Yeh citric acid was highlighted in something i am reading at the moment.

Mainly for its inclusion is diet soft drinks, which can actually slow down progress when in a low carb environment.

Guys, there seem to be a load of ridiculously anal and ludicrous questions about diet these days.

1ManRiot, are you 260lbs at 9% BF and wondering how to get down to 4% BF for an upcoming comp without losing too much mass? Learning about how certain food substances react with the body is all well and good, especially when it comes to bodybuilding. But to query the calories and insulin spike in a can of effing sugar-free Redbull?! Come on.

Eat well and lift regularly. Ask these questions when Chad Nicholls has failed you 6 weeks out from the Mr.Olympia.

I'm not trying to be technical, I'm trying to get it right.

For the third time, CALORIES or CARBS weren't the issue of keeping in ketosis, insulin release from sweeteners was.

I am here to learn, like everyone else, if I don't ask questions, I don't learn.

I agree with both Titch and 1MR on this matter.

I often find myself asking 'anal' questions!
Sometimes my questions are somewhat too technical and are often in regards to things that i dont really need to know.

People say 'trial and error' or 'monitor and adjust accordingly' which i agree with,
but, I feel that the more you know (from the basics down to the smallest things like insulin response etc) the less time you need to 'monitor and adjust' or make 'errors'.

I love bodybuilding, the training and the nutrition and its effects on my body. So i want to learn these small details so sometimes i ask.
