wouldn't call it "huge amounts of ecstasy" - no wonder he looked at you funny!

it does give me a kind of deep satisfaction though, that lasts a while, more than instant gratification. today was leg day and i am still basking in the DOMS!

I love training mate - a personal challenge, the fact that I'm getting bigger.

Plus of course it does trigger a chemical reaction in your brain to make you feel good - forget the chemical, but same as what works in cocaine.

Same here wiffers, today I benched the heaviest Ive ever done, and did 5 reps of the weight. I was so chuffed.

It was 30k dumbells on a flat bench. It may not seem much but 6 weeks ago when I was starting and only managing 17.5kg in each hand the thought of 30 kg in each seemed crazy. And better still I did 5 reps! I was very pleased to say the least.

    Thankyouplease

Endorphins are peptides produced by the pituitary gland and they resemble opiates i.e. they have the qualities of opium. They produce a sense of well being. This 'endorphin rush' that you're talking about is known as 'Runners High' It comes from extended periods of excercise when the muscles use up their store of glucose(I think) and function purely on oxygen.

I think the mechanics go something like this: Your pituitary gland gets stimulated (by exhaustion maybe) and releaees these peptides into you blood which then get transported to your brain. Receptors in your brain pick up these peptides and send you a message saying "All is good, you're amazing" and you start to feel awsome. Things like eating chocolate listening to music, laughing and having an orgasm are also supposed to release endorphins.
