Taking a break

is it good to take a break from weights for a week or 2. Anybody do this, been training hard for the last year, feeling a bit run down at the moment

Good idea mate, just finished a week of from everything.

feel refreshed and cant wait to get back in the gym. gives your body a much needed rest, or if you cant face being away from the gym just do some very light high rep stuff or just do some sscv for a week.

you will feel loads better going back after.

I don't believe it does any good. Do you ever abstain from sex for a month so you'll enjoy it more after the month is up ?

As far as I know, forgiveness is for the benefit of the person doing the forgiving, not the one being forgiven

Do you think its to do with the differing training approaches that a powerlifter and a bodybuilder have at all pete?

    Rep ranges and volume?

I suppose they tax the body in differing ways, but you could need a mental rest as opposed to a physical one?

you must also have some pretty amazing workouts to compare it to sex!

Very possibly. If it works for you, you would be crazy not to, indeed Powerlifters have very light weeks immediately before and after a comp. I have never been a fan of complete rest, but as I say, if it ain't broke don't fix it

Agreed, sounds like an excuse for laziness to me, just like the low volume routines and the 'less is more' mantra.

I find myself doing this every few weeks sometimes as well, its nice to let yourself fully recover sometimes.

If you love something let it go,if it comes back to you it's yours,if it doesn't it never was.

Having my 1st break since Xmas as we speak. A few minor strains have convinced me now is the time for a well earned week off.

I usually have a week off twice a year, and 2 to 3 weeks off at Xmas. My body tells me when it's time for a rest.
