Teeth whitening

Anybody got any experience of tooth whitening at the dentist or with any specialist products?

Mine have always been pretty yellow, and I guess drinking black coffee can't help, so I fancy having it done or doing it myself but wonder what the options are and whether paying more = a better result or not?

Crest White strips, think its the Pro one you want, along with their 3D Whitening Toothapaste can do a lot.

THe strips can make your teeth rather sensative ( it did for me) after about 4-5 days, I would alternate nights using them, or using them in 3 day blocks with about 2 days between to avoid that.

Would imagine if teeth whitening was the way to go tv personalities and superstars would not pay thousands for veneers.

If you want white teeth without paying through the nose then listen up.

1 tbsp hydrogen peroxide + 1 tbsp baking soda.

Make a paste and brush your teeth with it no more than twice a week for about 5 to 10 min. Maintain your sparkling white smile with doing the same once a week.

Search 'nitewhite' on ebay and get some of that. You will also need a gumshield. Wear it overnight with the nitewhite for 3 or 4 nights and your teeth will be Hollywood white. I bought mine from an orthodontist after having braces, and paid a stupid amount. That was before knowing it was on ebay (a different brand of the same stuff).

No gimics/may or may not work here. Follow the above and you will be happy. The only side effect is sensitive teeth for a day or two.

Thanks all, seems there are more than a few options worth trying before thinking about shelling out for the expensive dentist treatment

Any risk of damaging the teeth with this?

There is a chance you could damage your enamel with prolonged usage. If you want quick results then do it twice a week and no more than 5-10 min, if your gums start to go numb then stop. Also use food grade hydrogen peroxide at about 30% and dilute with about half a tbsp of water.

Once you get the results you want you can cut back and only do it once a week to maintain. I only do it once a month tbh since my teeth are pretty white now. Different people will tell you different things but this has really worked for me and a lot of other people I know and as long as you don't abuse it by doing it everyday or for over 15 min at a time then your enamel should be fine.

You will have trouble sourcing 30% material as from last year you can only upto 12% material without a licence.

My mistake I meant 30VOL at around 3% if it's any more I usually just dilute it. I normally get something like this.

Be careful if you're considering paying someone to do this for you.  Dentists are allowed to use much stronger peroxide than non-dental (cosmetic) practitioners, however dodgy folks will buy the stronger dental stuff off the internet & use it anyway without knowing what they're doing, which can cause permanent damage.  For example the most popular teeth-witening business operating where I live is run by someone who is breaking all sorts of laws & causing damage to their customers; only a matter of time before trading standards lay the smack down.

If this business is' breaking' all sorts of laws why do Trading Standards have to wait to investigate them using illegal or dangerous materials?

As a concerned potential customer why can't you lodge a complaint and start the ball rolling?

I have underwent a teeth whitening treatment in a cosmetic dental clinic in Whitby
I used to drink a lot of soda which was found to be the cause of my yellowish teeth. The treatment was good and I got a bright smile after it is done. I was given whitening trays to wear 2-3 hours every night. It was little uncomfortable at first but got adjusted later. Anyway whitening treatment done was really worth it.
