The Best Rapper of all time?

Im in to all types of music by the way but do like my Rap & Hip Hop

Id say my all time favorite is 2pac as he has so many good tracks of all types, but the modern day genius has to be Eminem for me no matter how commercial his music he is extremely talented.

What about you guys?

p.s If your not in to this type of music you entitled to your opinion but dont start posting about how all Rap / Hip Hop music is crap.

The best rapper of al time?

    I love hip hop so:

Once upon a time I would have said eminem after 3 great albums, SSLP, MMLP and Eminem show... relapse is ok but not a classic imo

2pac is very good, but overrate IMO (not hating though)

3 of my personal favourites right now though:
    Tech N9ne
    Royce Da 5.9
    Ice Cube

I dont know how to choose between them!

Grandmaster Melle Mel. Vastly underrated, even as a forefather of hip hop. Even the skits and accapellas on youtube of the man 15 years after his peak illustrate the mans ability.  The Message is the bench mark for the storytelling style of rap music. Everyone knows "Don't push me 'cuz I'm close to the edge.."

Contemporarily speaking, few are as skilled as Eminem.

2pac was competent. He had good media exposure. Far from the 'best ever'

    Notorious BIG: See 2pac.

Not a Jay Z fan but cannot discount his achievements. Glastonbury really was a spectacle for his ability, taking his sound to audiences who are unaccustomed to his music. I dislike virtually all of his stuff, he sits more comfortably in the pop rap genre. Though Death to Autotune is exactly how rap music should sound and one of the first rap songs in a long time to actually have some of the essence of what Hip Hop is.

Chuck D's group, Public Enemy was the first to strike fear into the hearts of middle/upper class Amercia. Gave the poor blacks an identity and wrote some very thought provoking music. Revolutionary production values, intelligent lyrics, powerful shows.

As did KRS One, a man so impoverished he spent his days in libraries reading books to take his mind of his hunger.

Rakim had an awesome style, but fell off spectacularly.

    Ditto for Big Daddy Kane

In terms of slept on, Percee P is possibly the most talented emcee of all time. His style is what Eminem based his own style on. In fact many more, more accomplished lyricists will acknowledge Perce as an inspiration. His percussive delivery and complex lyrical gymnastics have elevated rhyming since the late 1980's. When I say slept on, his debut album was released in 2005...

Its a tie between either El-P from Company Flow, Kool Keith (in his Dr. Octagon guise) or Cappadonna from Wu-Tang.

Here you go kids, for all you youngsters that think rap started in the 90s here is an excellent summation.

Flav was the comic relief and the foil to Chuck. They worked perfectly together. Check "By The Time I Get To Arizona" "My 98 Oldsmobile" for starters. The first for straight up demonstration against the powers that be, the second for the metaphore. Listen to it, the lyrics have a surface meaning. Then after about 3 or 4 listens, the deeper meaning comes out. The man had incredible depth. Plus the hardest beats.
