The Man With The 30 Second Memory

Seen the full length documentary about this fella before.Must be incredibly frustrating to basically wake up for the first time every 30 seconds. In the full documentary he can remember certain things from the past, like the number plate of his first car for example.Very interesting doc.

Sounds rather like Guy Pearce's character in Memento.

If you watch the full documentary there is a scene where he keeps a diary.Every entry is the same.It is basically saying he feels alive. Then when they show him the diary he says he has never seen it before. It's very surreal.

And he also says to the person interviewing him 'You are the first human being I have ever seen'.

Most odd.Difficult to explain it propely, you really need to see it to fully understand it.

He can remember certain things. But very, very few.The piano is one of them.Same with the only person he recognises is his wife.In the full documentary he remembers his old car registration and the address of his childhood home IIRC.But forgets something you told him seconds ago.

I doubt anyone could imagine how bad it is to suffer from this.Imagine every 30 seconds you are waking up into this world for the first time. This clip is not the best example. If you watched the full documentary you would get a much better understanding of his condition.

At least he's not getting frustrated... which us "normal" people would. maybe thats to do with the memory too? not getting frustrated because he doesn't realise he's forgetting etc...

Good point mate. It's impossible to understand how he feels unless you are in that situation.

Still intrigues me years after watching the documentary.
