The Protein Works resolves issue

Well this could of turned out to be a lot worse than it was. I ordered some of their chocolate almond butter spread for a change normally get Nuts N More but fancied a change. Anyway I have a few intolerances which I am very aware of and avoid like the plague Gluten, wheat, fructose and caffeine.

Within a few seconds of putting it in my mouth I suffered a horrendous reaction to it. Coughing, throat closing up, itching skin, shakes, loads of mucus and then eventually throwing up and ****s! This went on for a couple of hours. The mrs was wanting to take to a&e as it was like an anafalactic shock.

There is nothing on the list on the product that would or has ever caused me a problem so there was obviously some cross contamination but even if I do eat something with gluten in it just bloats me and gives me mucus so not sure what it could be.

Is there anyone on here from The Protein Works or who reps for them as the response over the telephone was very poor and just simply said Thanks for letting us know. They didn't want it sending back to test or anything! Surely as a company if this has happened to a customer you would want to test it as if there is cross contamination then this could of been a lot worse.

I'm not sure what sort of response you expect or were expecting as all food manufacturers put the obligatory warnings on their labels to warn/advise consumers that the product in question was made or packed in a facility that handles nuts etc.

Not sure what caused your reaction to the nut butter but hope you find out somehow.

Their site has the icons on the page highlighting if it's gluten free, dairy free, wheat free etc.

Let us know what happens as this sounds like an odd response to a mouth full of almond butter.

I eat almonds every day lol so no chance of that. IN response to what reaction would I expect I would be hoping they would want to test it as there must of been some kind of cross contamination somewhere as there is nothing in there I am allergic or intolerant to. LIke i said I wouldn't want anyone else to have this happen to them.

on the site it says it is 100% almonds, there is no mention of possible x-contamination as they would have to list that and it clearly states it is gluten free, wheat free etc.

you are fully within your rights to kick off at them and they should take it more seriously.

Well just had a call from Dave at the customer service team. The reason they didn't ask for this back was it was the only batch number for the product they had in and apologised that this wasn't explained and the full procedure wasn't explained on the phone.

Still at a loss to explain what actually happened as no one else has reported any issues from this batch either and their nutritionist thinks it was a nut based anafalactic shock of some description even though I eat almonds on a daily basis.

At least they got back the next day so can't grumble about that it has put me off any of their food products but never had any issues with anything else from them and rest of products have been decent. Thanks Phil3030 for putting them on to me.

sounds like their nutritionist is a genius, no idea how he come up with that..... the sort of typical response I would expect to be honest.

What can I say lol its a mystery. I may send it off for testing myself if I can find somewhere to do it at a reasonable price.

Hey Joe - Glad to our CS team were quick off the mark here after it was flagged up last night. I know you've had a chat with them this morning so hope you're satisfied with the resolution.

They have just sent me an email confirming they are refunding me the cost of the product too so again fair play. Can't ask for much more than that with regards to service.

Just to clarify, the website states this product (Choc Almond Cinnamon Butter) is NOT gluten or wheat free. Guess you're possibly looking at our Almond Butter instead?

Yes thanks as mentioned I may get this myself if only for my piece of mind but other than that I can't say any fairer than refunding me and actually getting back and speaking to me about it.
