The police

I'm sure there must be one or two decent coppers in the UK somewhere......

They have just changed the system on the road outside our gym to one way...its been there for 55 years. They changed it yesterday. The sharp bend into the road makes it really difficult to see the changes and new signage......at the beginning of the day there was 1 copper handing out tickets to almost every 2cnd driver....apparently they then changed tact and started handing out warnings, which i would have thought wrong but hey-ho...the funny thing is when the gym opened at 3pm they placed 4 coppers on the street...incredible.

I asked why they incresed the manpower and one of them said "becuase we are right outside the gym and we dont want anyone doing anything stupid"

food for thought eh?

To be fair, did anyone actually get a ticket, or just warnings etc...

I've just done a speeding course so i didn't have to get 3 points. the instructor said a few times make sure you read every road sign when out and about. ESPECIALLY in and around your area and roads your used to... beacause if the town your used to driving into every sat for the last 20 yrs, decides to drop from 30 to 20 one day, and your caught speeding - tough... guess its the same for everything so a warning fair play... they could just dish tickets out to every single one, and then have an amazingly expensive police mans christmas ball!!!

Police do not change traffic signs or regs. They are involved in the process but it's not up to them.

I assume you are being sarcastic, as the Army entrance test was made easier long before the Police entrance test was...

but what do you expect with regards litteracy to be honest, just listen to the kids going through school today and read how the write, all text speak and wannabe Yank sh1t, then they leave and join the workplace.

as Mobster has pointed out its not the Police that change the road layout they just have to enforce the new regs and rules etc

you may well find that the tickets and warnings are more to do with the attitiude of the drivers, as its far easier and quicker to simply dish out a warning than fill in a ticket so most cops will in most cases do that, but if they get attitude for simply doing their jobs then the ticket book comes out, back to the common sense thing mentioned on here already

can't see any force being worried about a few weight trainers though so not sure what that comment was about re the gym

Given that no one has argued about the road traffic regs being changed (two way to one way) what did the OP etc think might have happened had the police not been there. Indeed it was still happening even though the police WERE there.

Yes, people would have driven the wrong way up a newly changed one way street.

Now would anyone have preferred the police not to have been there until someone had an accident? Or there slowing down, warning and letting all and sundry see them there? What is, given the post means even I know that outside someone's gym the old bill was handing out warning notices to blind idiots, the effect of these tickets and notices. Yes, as per the post, word gets out. For every driver that saw them but was driving legally 5 others will not have been told. For all those with tickets, they'd have moaned at more, a single post here gets 10's of hits and even those with warning notices will have told loads. Most of the gym members will mention it.

In other words 100's of drivers who've not yet been down the street will now know it's a one way.

And, thus far, no ones dead.

Perhaps that's exactly how it's supposed to have worked.

Sounds like the police did a good thing.

Be there to make sure no herbert drove the wrong way up a new one way street. I agree with Mobster and Reborn good stuff I say.

I too tire of what I term "the twattery" when it comes to threads regarding the police.

If I was a general mod I'd have locked this thread.

My point was really this....i appreciate it was a change in the law...i respect that.

They were full of attitude from the outset according to the lads in the gym. There were 2 cars and eventually 4 coppers...imo a blatant waste of resources. I clocked one old woman getting a right telling off from one fo the coppers, i mean really belittling and disrespectful imo.

I drove up the street the wrong way...i was in auto pilot...the direction in that street has been the same for 55 years...like almost everyone else did. He could have said "look mate you may not have realised that there has been a change and youve made a mistake, just be careful the next time as it may cause an accident"....he didnt, he said "youve just drove the wrong way in a one way system, what is your name and address, i'm also going to check you have insurance...are you aware of the penalty of doing this......blah blah blah....then he said "on this occassion i am going to warn you...Don't do it again ok"...then the twat said "cant any of the idiots around here read"?

Unfortunatly my previous experience throughout my life of police and the law is and not a good one...and my lack of respect for them is due to this. I am a law abiding member of the public....not a "Herbert" mate.

Its not police bashing...its bashing those twats that happen to be police unfortunatly

Local Councils are the ones who choose what signs go where for any reason, then the (what we call DOE) people actually go out and fit them, the police just enforce them.
