Too much creatine, is it bad for you?

Hi all,
I have been taking creatine for a while now and i really like it. I have a very inacurate weighing scale so I have been taking more creatine than recommended in order to make sure that I get at least 5g daily (I probably take between 7 and 12g a day).
So I would like to know if there is such thing as too much creatine. Is a high intake of creatine unhealthy?
Thanks.

Too right! Get an accurate weighing scales! A teaspoon should be about right.

If you get no stomach discomfort from it then you won't have any problems. I find it hard to believe than your scales may show 5 grams while it's 12 on it, but anyway

7-12g isn't a high dose of creatine so you'll be fine. If you do take a high daily dose. Probably the worst thing that will probably happen is a bad case of 'anal voiding' :)

Don't worry about weighing it. Just take teaspoon a day and you'll be accurate enough1

I've known people to use a shot glass as a measure for creatine - turns out the glass was packing near 40grams of creatine per 'shot'.

I'd never recommend the above method but a teaspoon heaped or level will suffice - anywhere from 5-10g per day is fine IMO.

If you wish to invest in a set of scales then argos or similar should have an accurate to 1g kitchen scale for under twenty quid.

      'anal voiding' :)

lol thats a new phrase for me. To the original question it shouldn't be too hard to measure out 5g to within a gram or two even without accurate scales, but I know a lot of people that choose to take 10g per day anyway and it does no harm. You are of course spending more on creatine that way though
