Trip *to* the states - Advice Needed

I'm going to the states for 2.5 months in a few weeks to coach tennis and hockey.

Need some advice

I'm not going to take any supps with me. Is it hard to find whey out in the states or will be it very over priced stuff?

All i want is prob 3 kgs of un flavoured whey to keep me ticking over.

Has anyone trained in the states? What is the atmosphere like? Will many gyms offer pay as you go? What type of gyms are their in the states ? Will i be frowned upon as being english?

Finally if you've been could you list the top 3 things to do when i'm there. I don't mind where it is i'm going to write a plan of things to do and stuff.

Cheers Xian

Youre going to what is basically similar to a sports camp surrounded by athletes or people who want to play on a competitive level or are even just really into sports yet youre asking us, for gym atmosphere and supplement advice.

    Wake up dude.

youll be fine mate. Training in the US is the same as anywhere mate, good gym etiquette is a must though in the gym though, so put weights away etc

i find that personally when i tried in Florida they type of trainer was a far more serious breed, everyone went for intensity and seemed to talk about how to get results etc rather than fanny about. But alas i was in a proper spit and sawdust gym and not a commercial one so this could account for it as well

wont there be any other trainers or sports inclinced people over the age of 18 or so?

not taking the mick but im pretty sure you can see what im trying to say is, youll basically get all the answers to those questions when youre out there.

one person here can answer those questions but if they were in miami but youll be living in new york, it wont exactly do you any favours.

i sound like a right cnut up there but didnt mean to. just being blunt thats all.

A friend of mine goes once a year and she says the stuff is less expensive over there than here.

    What he said.

They are pretty comprehensive for supplements ime.

I dont have much experience of the gyms but the ones I have used are cheaper ($30-50 per month) than here and better equipped.

In terms of things to do, you should be getting your ass into New York on a regular basis as its only a short train ride from Montclair (around 40 mins). You should also travel a little while your there, the east coast people are not that representative of Americans imo, if you travel south or west most are considerably more friendly.

Other places to visit: Chicago/San Francisco.

Oh, and remember to speak slowly and enunciate properly as most Americans will not be able to understand you otherwise.

I worked out in the states on a summer camp for three summers and loved it. Personally i wouldnt worry about supplements, just enjoy the sports, sunshine and general life. The camp i worked on had a gym, so was pretty good. If yours doesnt then you wont get any time to be training as you will be busy all day.

Just enjoy it, was the best summers of my life and would do it again!
