Jones could cause problems for anyone simply due to his ridiculous size for the weight, that might be an interesting fight, I mean Shogun is Shogun but Jones will be massive compared to him. I'm looking forward to see how that turns out

Shogun is a legend but time for some new blood to take over. I like the style of Jones and he's not boring like a lot of fighters.

^^He is only 29. Jones definite favorite but then so was Machida. I just hope Shogun is not suffering ring rust from his long layoff. Leg kicks and takedown attempts will be the tactic I would think.

I'll put my neck out (and I'll be betting on) Shogun to take that fight. Probably a TKO round 3. Shogun is just relentless and nigh impossible to hurt. Thoses big skinny legs of Jones will take a beating.

Lot of competitive matches that are tricky to call.

I hope Cro cop can at least beat Schuab, though I don't think he will; Schuab will probably be too fast for him.

Lol i couldn't have been much more wrong! Didn't understand Shogun's tactics at all, looked sluggish

Jones looks unstoppable. Like Anderson Silva but with top class wrestling thrown in. I'd say after seeing that he'd be top 5 in the heavys easy. Laughable Rashad Evans is supposed to be able to "compete" with this guy. Jones will be around 1/5 after that at best for their matchup.

Agree , Shogun didn't look anywhere near sharp. Jones was impressive though.

One fight I'd like to see above any other now is Anderson Silva v Jones - I think that would be a great match.
Can't see Evans giving Jones much to worry about.

Was very impressed with the speed of Urijah Faber at 135.

Think it's maybe time for Mirko to hang the 4oz gloves up

Rashad won't fight Jones, they train in the same camp, will be surprised if they do

Shogun got totally dominated, reading Sherdog this morning was laughable as all the nuthuggers come out of the woodwork to spout the excuses for Shogun's loss

Evans IS fighting Jones, was in the cage at the end and has announced he is done with the Greg Jackson camp.
Total domination by Jones and  to be honest I don't see the man out there that can beat him, the one guy with maybe the speed to compete I think is Machida. I think Silva is outmatched by Jones, would much rather see Cain fight him.
Cro Cop has been cut, he was doing quite well in his fight I thought but every loss tarnishes his career so time to call it quits.

Man I'm pissed, why take the fight when you know your not ready. FFS.
He looked worse than the griffin fight, last time I put money on shogun when he's recovering from an injury.

Rashad is way overrarted probably Jones' easiest top 5 fight.
I still believe that Rampage, Machida and a 100% shogun > Jones.

Nothing I've seen of Rampage lately would convince me that he could cope with Jones.

Machida may be competitive but I'd still give Jones the edge.

Given a bit more time I could see Phil Davis being a good match for Jones.

Jones is too big for any of those guys IMO, he is ridiculously large and strong for the weight, and fast and clever with it. I didn't think it would be such an utter domination of Shogun though must admit

Agree I'd like to see Silva against him. I think Jones would win but you never know, it would be an interesting fight

Same reason Schaub beat Crocop, he was bigger and stronger and outreached him and could manhandle him. Cropcop should cut weight a bit and fight at light heavy, he's not big enough these days for the heavyweights, fighters in the UFC are getting bigger all the time it seems

    musclemores u jokin???
rampage and machida better than Jones??

i called this weeks back with my mates and they all laughed and said Shogun would destroy him..
i honestly believe Jones will rule the roost for a long time now!!
the only fighter imo who comes close (similar in some ways too) is silva.. unpredictable striking, comes at eople from so many angles!!
the only thing machida has going for him is his elusiveness.. but jones would find a way to catch him.. with an elbow, fist, knee, foot, shin, heel, anything!!
rampage is like a zombie these days when he fights!! and as for Shogun.. Jones on the ground is unreal, on his feet he's unreal, Shogun couldnt cope!! i cant see anyone stopping him for a good while.. especially not evans!!

Cant see Jones getting beat for a long time. Shogun didnt look as crisp as he did when he fought Machida to be honest. Whether it be ring rust or not, he looked like how he faught Mark Coleman. Too slow, too small and was just destroyed after the first round. I thought he might have got hurt pretty  bad after the first round, he looked gone.

neways. Jones is too big, too strong, technically looks perfect and he is still improving and soo unpredictable. Cant see any light heavyweight out there that can touch him. Only thing i havent seen is if he has a chin (no ones caught him clean yet), if hes got a concrete chin as well. He will be on top for a while. I hope when he fights Rashad he dont have a psyhcological issue with him being his team mate. Apart from that Rashad will be a breaze.

Cro Cop was doing well, but it he got knocked the fook out. i mean it was painful to watch. Like when Gonzaga kicked him to the curb. he is nothing like he was in pride. He needs to hang up his boots.

    Re:UFC 128 2011/03/22 11:37:03 (permalink)
Shogun was clearly no where near 100%.

Rampage is incredibly powerful and hits like a truck, he throws quick and very powerful hooks and is just as strong as Jones. IMO Rampage could get inside Jones' reach and get the KTFO.

Machida is the best IMO at LHW, he as far as my knowledge goes has never been taken down, he is very hard to hit and throws very quick straight punches, IMO Machida gets the dec.

Shogun was embarrassing in the fight, he looked worse than the griffin and coleman fight. If he can avoid Machida on his road to a title shot I think he will avenge his loss.

I see a lot of people requesting  Anderson to fight Jones, as he is the only one who can test Jones, I couldn't disagree more. Jones is a terrible match up for Anderson, he would get taken so easily it wouldn't be competitive.

So IMO Jones is still untested and overrated.

That punch that put CroCop down looked like it hardly touched him. Weird. Did you see his face hit the mat when he went down?

Sometimes they just hit the spot. He sure dropped like a sack of spuds.

Jones reminds me so much of Bonjasky. That enormous reach advantage is going to take something pretty special to overcome. I agree, he'll wear that belt for some time.

    Good comparison, mate.
I predicted the result 6 weeks ago when the match was announced. Heck, even my wife, who normally watches the fights with me, called it! There is only one, possibly two, fighters in the light-heavyweight division that I can see giving Jones any trouble. My first choice would by Machida. I think his unorthadox style will prove problematic for an ultimately still-inexperienced fighter like Jones. And, at close to 6'2"'", he's about the tallest fighter in the division after Jones. I'm not sure he has the jaw to needed to stay in the fight long enough to beat Jones, but, to date, Jones' jaw hasn't really been tested anyway. My second pick would be Rampage. I think his raw strength and take-down ability would cause Jones problems. I think Jones would beat him at this point in his career, but I think, after Machida, Quintin would pose the biggest threat to Jones. The obvious choice is a catch-weight fight at 195lbs between Silva and Jones. However, that is ery unlikely to happen anytime soon. It does pay to remember that that LHW title is cursed! I think only Machida has successfully defended it since Forest Griffin won it, and that defense was very questionable. On has to imagine that Dana White is loving the fact that Jones is the new champ. He truly is a UFC product, unlike say Shogun. I'm sure UFC will have his face on the cover of their video games and anywhere else possible to promote him and themselves for a while to come. In fact, I just read he's going to be on the "Tonight Show with Jay Leno" in the U.S. next month. I can't recall any other UFC fighter ever being on such a mainstream TV programme.
