UFC buys Strikeforce

I think this is big enough for the general forum.

UFC (Zuffa) has just purchased Strikeforce. Major shock IMO and not in a good way.

Why is it not a good thing in your opinion?
Surely this means that fans will now see the fights that they want to see.... UFC fighters Vs the likes Fedor, Overeem etc, so its a good thing IMO

Dana White is saying that they will still be seperate companies but how does the likes of a Josh Barnett get a contract when his deal expires? No way does Dana White not have a say in that. Basically the fighters have no bargaining power with the 2 biggest companies now. As for Fedor if he is to fight in UFC because of this then it is basically against his will, "fight for us or you'll never fight again" is not going to be a good thing.

Hmmm...when you put it like that, I have to agree.

It certainly won't be good for the fighters, anyway

They are already very tight when it comes to things such as fighters wages, this will let them be even more greedy

Not to mention what happens to Paul Daley, Frank Shamrock, Pat Miletich, Dan Henderson etc. The list of people who Dana White has a personal grievance with outside the UFC is endless. Not to mention some of the outrageous things he has said about Showtime in the past.

This is a blow to mma as a sport Id say.

Fighters likes Overeem/Fedor etc, already dont want to fight due to the UFC's strangle hold on fighters and how often they fight.

Will all become the ufc in the end, its a monopoly. I hope to Heavy weight granprix carrys on.

    Not good news imo.

Fedor probably won't carry on fighting. He pretty much announced his retirement after the Silva fight.

He backtracked on that statement. He has announced that his next training camp will be in Holland with new fighters to train with. This deal may make him think twice though.

You may remember Vinny Magalhaes from TUF, one of the best BJJ artists in the world even though he's not too hot at MMA, he's due to train with him.

    Yep bad news

As for Fedor, as I've mentioned before, I think he's pretty much finished TBH, would love to be proved wrong of course

Fedor has expressed intrest in dropping to light heavy and fighting dan henderson. Both parties seem to want this fight.

I'll reserve judgement, if it means we see more big fights then all well and good IMO

Surely this is cyclical? UFC buys Pride, many big names cross over, some don't. This shakes things up, some current UFC mainstays leave as there is new talent on board and their stock drops. The leavers and the ones who didn't come over become free agents and someone will promote fights for them. A new organisation, or an existing smaller one benefits until they get to a decent size and are bought out.

Not good for the sport or the fighters, many of the fighters will get cut straight after there contracts finish with strikeforce as for the big fights the fans want to see there are only really 3 or 4 of them and then what. There needs to be an alternative.
