Un-dated 20p coin. Whats it worth?

I have a 20p coin that is totally undated. I remember hearing about a mistake with some coins that were un-dated and the royal mint were offering £50 each to buy them back. I then heard people were selling them on ebay for thousands...
Ive looked and im seeing all different sorts of prices. Is it really worth something or is it usual internet rubbish that has been blown out of proportion?

Thanks

I was a bit sceptical about some of the prices being mentioned in the media.

Did someone not claim the got 7k for it or something?  I'd find it hard to believe they are worth that much to be honest, they did make thousands of them.

Strangely I've just checked my pockets for 20p pieces (i have  6) and I have one from 1987 - I didnt know they kept coins in circulation that long - 22 years.

Yet spending these coins is the last thing you should do, according to the London Mint Office. Spokesman and coin expert Nick Hart said people who find one should either register quickly and grab the chance to sell now for £50, or hold on to the coin in case the value rises in the future.
"There's no catch at all in our offer," Hart said. "We believe the value of these coins will go up – you could be looking at an auction value of several hundred pounds in 20 years, depending on how many are tracked down.
"We are willing to pay £50 each for them now because we've got collectors lined up who want to buy them and we'll also keep some ourselves as an investment, believing that the value will go up."

That seems sensible advice to me, even though the guy obviously has some bias on the matter.

The Mint office are offering £50 for one but people are willing to pay a few £100 at this minute.

Also check your pockets for 1p and 2p coins that have "New Pence" printed on it that are between the dates of 1982-1983. These are worth a lot too.

The Royal Mail doesn't buy them. A speculative investment company does.

Seventh link down currently wants £2000 for his.

Direct link to his page not working.

MY SON WAS VERY EXCITED TO FIND A 'GENUINE 20P COIN UNDATED ON BOTH SIDES BUY NOW £99.99'
HE ASKED ME IF HE COULD USE HIS OWN MONEY AND IF I WOULD PUT SOME IN AS WELL.
ON CONTACTING THE SELLER TO CHECK IF THIS WAS GENUINE THE REPLY WAS YES OF COURSE.
WE THEN PROCEEDED TO BUY IT NOW.
WE WERE THEN ALARMED TO FIND THAT IT WAS SUDDENLY RELISTED AGAIN.
I CONTACTED THE SELLER TO ASK WHY AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY HAD THREE COINS?
THEN THE ALARM BELLS STARTED TO RING!!!
THE SELLER CONTACTED ME TO SAY THAT THE COIN WOULD BE ARIVING MONDAY OR TUESDAY. I THEN EMAILED TOASK FOR IT TO BE SENT BY RECORDED DELIVERY AND I WOULD PAY THE DIFFERENCE.
SUDDENLY THE SELLER CHANGED THERE USER I.D. AND ANY FEEDBACK GIVEN WOULD APPEAR PRIVATE, THUS NO ONE WOULD BE ABALE TO SEE WHAT HAS HAPPENED.
BASICALLY THE SELLER REASURES YOU THAT IT IS GENUINE THEN POSTS THE COIN IN AN ENVELOPE WITH A RIP IN THE CORNER(SEE PHOTO) THIS THEN IMPLIES THAT ANY BODY THAT WORKS FOR ROYAL MAIL IS DISHONEST BECAUSE IT LOOK LIKE THE ENVELOPE HAS BEEN RIPPED OPEN AND TAPED UP.
THE BEAUTY OF THIS SCAM IS THAT YOU HAVE NO COME BACK TO EBAY AS YOU CANNOT PROVE THAT THE SELLER IS BEING DISHONEST!!!!!
    CLEVER!!!!!!!!!!
I'M NOW TRYING TO RAISE AWARENESS TO THIS AND HOPEFULLY RECOUP SOME OF THE MONEY MY SON HAS LOST

Some people on Ebay are trying to sell the new 20p's off as these undated ones as they have no date on the back(like the old ones).....Because it's on the front.

The guy i work with has an undated one.You have to register it because apparently there is something else about them that will prove if they are genuine or fakes.

The information about how to tell a genuine from a forgery is also now being sold on Ebay!...The market will will flooded soon.

    I've got one 1p from 1975, 76, 77 & 80 with New Penny on them, but I assume they're not special?
