Understanding when to take certain supplements?

I now have started taking 3 shakes a day along with my 3 meals. I have one shake which consists of 30g whey and 60g maltodextrin, another shake i throw in 30g whey and 60g instant oats and my last shake is an all in one gainer which contains 400 calories, 55g carbs and 38g protein.

When would be the best time to take each of these shakes? Im a bit confused.

Thanks

malto and whey pwo - fast carb and whey - perfect

the other two i would have one pre work out

and the other in the morning

    but that just my opinion

I'd only have one shake on non training days and two on training days but if you're still going ahead with three then go with what mdm said.

I try to personally keep shakes down if possible and have more real food. Sometimes It can't be helped and shakes are nice and quick influx of protein.

When do you take the last shake? If it's before bed then casein (i.e a slow digesting protein) would be ideal.

I have three because im busy during the day and i find it hard to eat a lot often aswell and find shakes as a perfect way of getting the nutrients i need down me.

Ive heard whey and malto is great PWO before so i think i will stick with that and have my massgainer an hour or so before i go gym. The instant oats i have i dont really like but ill jus find some other time during the day to get them down me

Aks i usually go gym around 8 in the evening and have my shake immediatly after at around 9, i have also heard that i need to eat something before i go sleep, ive been recommended cottage cheese but cant stand the stuff so i jus have a glass of milk with few slices of peanut butter most nights before bed.

Take your PWO shake of whey and malto within 15-20 minutes of working out, have you tried quark as a protein source before bed?

Pretty bland but people mix allsorts with it to make it more palatable, there was a post on it in a few days back maybe worth finding it,......... I personally use cottage cheese as I love the stuff but Quark is higher in protein and lower carbs, sodium etc so a good choice for before bed.

Ok, will have a look, is not having a glass of milk and peanut butter good enough before bed?

Fine mate if it fits into your diet, I just prefer something a little more filling plus once I start on the peanut butter its hard to stop.

Quark IMO tastes like philidelphia only weaker, I love it and if you do think it tastes bland just mix some flavoured protein powder! A perfect pre bed snack!

I'd swap one of those shakes for a casein shake just before bed. Like you, I can't stomach cottage cheese (sadly) so I down a shaker full of Boditronics Midnight Express in milk. That's a nice slow-release hit of protein (the Boditronics one also has HMB added in) that helps keep the muscles fed through the night.

ive got 5kg of my mass gainer to get through and 2.5kg of instant oats, the massgainer has a nice taste to it but the oats i just force down with milk and strawberry whey. i dont really want to be taking another shake so ill just stick to having food before bed, once i get through this bag of oats ill swap that for some casein to take before bed.

hey man, whats the mass gain shake you take? just curious about the ingredients.

a lot of people take quark/cottage cheese/casein before bed but i generally just take a whey blend (reflex peptide fusion) with milk before bed or a whole food meal ie. meat and veg with rice

if youre having milk+peanut butter before bed id say throw in a scoop or two of whey with it, your body recovers while you sleep so good to have plenty of protein in the body during this time.

use the whey+oats as a meal replacement type thing between main meals somewhere, then use either your mass gain shake or whey/malto pwo and then for the 3rd shake have it before bed in milk to slow digestion, just whey here or whey+oats

Current goals: get back in the game

Quark is rank  and if you don't like cottage cheese you definitely won't like quark...but it's cheap so give it a go...

Dunno where you're getting your quark from or what sort of quark it is, but I hate cottage cheese and I love quark... it barely tastes of anything, it's like thick yoghurt...
