Vain sore after blood tests!!!!

Just had some blood samples taken from my right arm (usual spot) and its hurting at the point where the needle went in, i cant really straighten my arm without it feeling uncomfortable. Just to note that about 10 days before that i had some samples taken from the same spot. can it usually hurt alittle like this?

Is there any redness, discoloration, swelling? Is it warm to the touch?
After talking to a phlebotomist, please call your doctor to be on the safe side.

if you have a crap doctor (usually a GP or a sh*t nurse) who can't take blood and pokes around for 20 mins trying to find a vein before hammering away with a venflon then yes it does happen. it shouldn't hurt for too long though from what you are experiencing. They can be a lot worse, bruised etc..

    See my edit above.
    I talked to a phlebotomist.

If you are having discomfort in straightening your arm, and there is swelling, she advised that you contact your doctor to be on the safe side.

After 10 days in the same spot shouldn't hurt. The vein should have healed.

I've had 20 sticks in a lab without any pain or inability to extend my arm.

It may be serious, and then again it may not be.
I hope the doc sees this...
but in the mean time call your doctor.
The possibilities of infections and blood clots are not to be taken lightly.
Better to be on the cautious side.

    Keep us posted.

    well
    remember it may be nothing!!!!!

so don't get overworked about it.
    Is there bruising also?

But a bit of inconvenience for you to make sure you stay well is very important to the people in your life who care about you and your friends here on MT.

You are a unique precious spirit.
I'd hate for you to blow this off as nothing when in fact it could be easily taken care of immediately.

Life on MT wouldn't be the same having you laid up in the hospital or 6 feet underground.

    You'll be fine!!!!

    hmmm,
I'm not sure how to take that.

I could just not take the time to help you and let you croak possibly, but that just wouldn't be nice, now would it, nor is it in my nature to not help when I can help.

If you are laughing then that is good.
A merry heart is like good medicine.

Keep a look out for red streak up your arm. That's a serious infection.

I hope your day is full of good things...
    I really do hope that..
There is no sarcasm at all.
    Just genuine concern.

    g'day mate!

    May be phlebitis...

Rarely, the vein may become inflamed after the blood sample is taken. This condition is called phlebitis and is usually treated by applying a warm compress several times daily.

I've seen phlebitis get so bad that there was red streaks visible on the skin, traveling along the vein up the arm.

Hermoso has a good point, if you are very concerned, the best thing to do will be see your Dr. The peace of mind will be worth the $.

    Good advice from hermoso/tanatel above

    ORIGINAL: cu3ed

i small spot of redness where the needle was, small tiny sweeling just at the same point nothing more., normal temperature.

Thats to be expected and nothing untowards there.

As you just had your blood test then expected to be a bit sore, especially if the site had been used recently. Look for the signs mentioned above but should be fine.

Its getting alittle bit better now im able to streach my arm out with no real discomfort, so as long as it get better ill leave it for the moment but keep a close eye to it!

Hermoso...thanks for all your help and it is greatly appreciated, always, iwasnt tryint to be cheeky at any of your responces, thanks again.

Tanetel, thanks for putting the fear of god into me!!!!, only kidding mate, but i dont think its gonna be anything more serious, than a bit of discomfort for abit. Thanks again.

Doc, cheers for your time i know its limited here.

I think the disconfort has came from the nurse using the same spot again so quickly, i meant the bruising from the last one was never gone, and the actually injections and stuff where alot more painful!.

    Thanks for you help!

Ah, you didn't mention you had bruising too. That will make it a bit painful for sure.

Next time you have blood drawn, after the needle is withdrawn, make sure you press firmly on the puncture point for at least 3 minutes and you can also bend your elbow into your fingers to apply more pressure. The main thing is keep strong pressure on the puncture point. Raise your elbow above your heart while applying pressure.
Doing those things can help prevent the bruising.
Have her stick you in the other arm and/or a different spot, too to minimize pain.

It's always a pleasure to help.
Hoping you heal quickly. Here's to the lovely purple/green/yellow of bruises... you body at work healing itself.

    Take care!
