Vauxhall Vectra v Ford Mondeo,advice?

Hi iv currently got an 04 1.4 ford fiesta, but have decided i want a diesel and a bigger car. So im thinking about getting a ford mondeo or vauxhall vectra, but im edging more towards a vectra as i really like them.
My budget is £4000-£5000 (preferably around £4500) and insurance isn't a problem.

So was wondering if anyone who has drove/owned either of the cars has got any opinions on them?

Cheers

I have had a 2.2 CDTi turbo deisel Vectra and loved it, and at the moment I have a Mondeo 2.0 TDCi Ghia and hate it and can't wait to get shot.

Vauxhall Vectra buddy, the Mondeos are having a bit of trouble with the diesel pumps at the moment.

I’ve driven both an 07 mondeo and an 07 vectra – hire cars, covered about 500 miles in each.

They’re extremely similar cars on paper, - but in reality the Mondeo is a far better car than the Vectra. The build quality is far better (comparable to a bmw), the seats are massively more comfortable (the vectra made my back ache actually) – I was hugely impressed with the Mondeo, very suprising.

The Vectra is the worst peice of turd in a tepid range of cars. The SRi is uninspiring where the same engines make the Astra move quite spiritedly, the high rent Vectras still have that Tonka Toy dash and all the non 'sport' (lol!) models have comedy suspension. Think sponge on stilts. Truly awful cars.

The Mondeo goes from strength to strength. In fleet car terms, competes compitently with the BMW 3 series. With their popularity comes huge depriciation, something you can reap the benefit of. Your 4.5k should see a nicely specced example with perhaps a few too many miles but great history. The shear volumes of them make it a buyers market meaning you shouldn't settle for a sh!tter.

Stay away from the Pauxhall tat!

I'd say you should just go and drive both and then choose. Nobody here knows which you're prefer to drive - only you can determine that!

Saying that....I've driven both and would confidently say Mondeo for myself because I happen to like the way they drive and the seats & I hate the angular Vauxhall Dash - although the 2.2 CDti Vectras do go well. Go and sit in a few in dealers and joyride them about a bit. If you're happy with a Fiesta, the Mondeo (by the same company) might make sense.

I'd also look at a few more cars. EG the VW Passat (excellent diesels, but a bit soft in the handling stakes for me although bloody comfortable) and the Honda Accord 2.2 CDTi (goes like proverbial, lots of kit as standard and very, very reliable) and so on.

Just saying "Mondeo or Vectra" is a bit limiting.

Please don't take what I say too literally. I'm a clown, when it's all said and done. Sometimes I say things with my tongue in my cheek to make people laugh, but please rest assured I am not laughing at *you*!

Vectras are by no means quick. Though I completely agree about the suspension. I hit an undulation in the motorway at 80, thought I was going to crash. They've got the spring rate and the dampening rates all wrong. The Vectra IMO is fooking dangerous as well as crap.

    Rosco.

I'd have thought a Chevy Caprice Classic would be more your thing?

with lots of sirens, light bars and shiny chrome??

i thought it was quicke enough but compared to my van i drive all week and my 1.6 focus anything is, it was good considering the air-con was on full
    mainly low end though

the suspension was shocking, the first time i drove it i took it in at the end and told them the suspension was fooked, it was like riding a caroussel

another thing is the indicators? whats the craic with them, how annoying are they?
