Veganlifters westside experiment

meant to start this many times, better late than never.

Backgroud: lifting 3 years, last 3-6 months seriously. About 3 months ago I moved to 5x5 style of abbreviated strength training. Before that i wasted my time with flex style routines - and probably still would had i not found MT!

My main focus is building strength.

I will:
deadlift 200kg
squat 160kg
close Captains of crush #2 gripper
lift 70kg with Rolling thunder thick bar one hand deadlift handle

I'll achieve this by deadlifting, squatting, crushing and liftingt that damn RT! Nothing fancy...

Routine:
I'm really bad with routines and tend to change them all the time, so i wont bother writing anything here.

27.10 (all weights in kilos)

Deadlifts:
5x50
3x90
3x120
singles: 140, 150, 150, 155, failed x 165 (got stuck about 15 cm off the floor grunting away for like 4 seconds!)

power cleans
3x3x65kg (learning the move)

Sit-ups
8xbw,8x10kg,8x15kg - haven't done sit-ups for months! They must be the most boring exercise there is.

Rolling thunder:
Right hand only, left still fecked from saturdays crushing
3x40
1x50
1x55
1x60 New PB!
miss x 62.5 got it a few cm off the floor but it came crashing down, bastard!

Plate pinching:
right only again
25kg x 10,5,3 secs

Good! Badboy is in as well, and no doubt couple other MT bros once we can decide on the date.

But isn't that a bit thin? I've been using two plates for my pinching.

yeah, thin is the key, i thought it might help me with the hold and close part of the #2 - i might be totally wrong though. Also I do fairly thick hold with RT.

Pete, RT is a thick fecker of a one arm handle which rolls as well so you cannot position your hand with it. I think it's a bit under 3" thick and a real grip killer. It's one of these very deceptive little things which look easy but very strong fellas have failed to lift 50kg with it if they haven't trained their grip before.

straight down - now don't tell me thats the wrong and easy way, lol!

How on earth could you lift RT with thumbless grip? Or is this referring to the crooked wrist lift?

    crushing day!

    Right hand:
    3 attempts to close #2
    5 negatives from closed position

There was one particularly good negative, i think i am slowly finding my position

    Closed holds with supergripper:
    9-4 5 seconds
    8-6 5 secs, 5 secs
...and then to the toilet to cool down the aching sore right forearm under cold water!

    Left hand:

    supergripper work

Finished with rubber band finger extensions.

I do supergripper stuff, just not #2 work. Well, I do "play" with the #2 with left hand but it's so much weaker than right one that I can do hardly anything with it, so I rather do supergripper work with left. I can close #1 with left hand as well, but i don't have #1 so cannot base any training on it.

Actually in retrospect i should have bought #1 as well, straphold training is so important for getting that #2 closed. oh well, beggars can't be choosers!

OK, didn't realise you were doing Super Gripper stuff on the left as well.

I'm starting to detest the #2. We're now sworn enemies. [}:)]

Holy smoke, Grip and Deadlift, now we're getting somewhere! Those aren't long term goals are they? Because I'm sure you'll nail the big 200 in no time, hell, 200 is a goal for me and I'm a scrawny kid

    thanks guys.

JF, no they are short term goals, i'm trying to achieve them ASAP. Realistically it might be a few months into next year before i lift 200kg, but only 5 months ago i thought that i would never lift that kind of weights.

    Anyways, todays session:

    Squats
    5x60kg
    3x105
    3x3x130

I changed to 3x3 from 5x5 because wanted to incorporate things like deep squats, bottom position squats and maybe box squats and speed squats into my training. I used to do 5x5x127.5kg but it was really pushing it so i think swap to 3x3 was welcomed anyway.

Wide squats with arse to floor
    5x60
    5x85
    3x95

These are a real bastard! First time i tried these and needed to really focus on my balance.

    SLDL
    5x90
    2x4x120
Crap! My left grip kept failing, my grip training is taking it's toll! I'm considering leaving SLDL's out for a while, or maybe i should keep them if they assist with my deadlifting? Any opinions?

Good session anyways. Was pleased that i got 3x3x130 in good clean form considering that i failed to squat 140 just a week ago in the session with Badboy.

Good mornings? A better assistance exercise for the deadlift anyway in my opinion.

I love stiff leg dead lifting - have found it helped me with my full deads loads - but it has been in combination with 3/4 deads
Just dont do stiff legs before full deads and try a pb!

M5, i think i'll go with GM's for some time and see how it goes.

Les, haven't really done 3/4 DL's ever because i feel my weak point is the bottom, if I get it to 3/4 height it should be in the bag already - thats why i started those arse to floor squats as well to try to work that bottom drive.

DMPM, i had to - this time! Usually i just go with double overhand.

Original plan was to have my "leftover" session today (the exercises you don't really like or are not exited about, but have to do for some unexplained reason), but had a rough night and didn't have energy. So did some crushing instead:

    CoC #2
3 attempts to close - sorry performance today, seemed to have lost my position again
    3 negatives from closed position

    Supergripper - timed holds
    8-6 5 sec
    10-3 5s
    11-1 5s
    11-2 5s
    12-1 5s

Supergripper work with left hand as well.
