Vegetable juice diet?

Anyone ever done a vegetable juice diet or used one in conjunction with other foods for a while?

If so, did you follow a programme - and where did you get your protein from if not whey?

Thanks,
M

No, and unless it was for some kind of extreme medial condition, I wouldn't do one either.

Thanks TLW. Yea, keen on trying the "super nutrient" approach but was thinking I'd just add a few shakes instead of going all out...

You could simply eat veg, superfood in it's whole form.

Well there's the thing - you couldn't consume the kind of quantities of nutrients we're talking about unless you dump the pulp through juicing it first ...

What are you expecting from this diet approach? Are you trying to achieve a specific goal or target?

Dumping the pulp also means concentrating the fructose.  You don't need the quantities of the micro nutrient content to the levels which you would be incapable of consuming the whole foods.  A smoothie would be better IMO, or even a pill.

Friends who have tried it out have raved about the huge benefits to just about every aspect of their physical and mental well being. These are peeps whose opinions I'd normally trust - and, while there's nothing particularly wrong with me, just thought I'd like to try ...

Is your diet fairly good already? It might be that it simply cleaned up your friends' diet. Sometimes people put improvements down to magic which is simply common sense.

What's in the vegetable juice diet? What does it consist of?

As ginger nut was saying.

Were they eating KFC, drinking lots before?
If they had been eating lots of veg & salads before. Then I doubt they would have felt the change.

No read the veg juice diet in question.
But I often add ingredients like carrots to my juice. Got a nutri-bullet so I keep all the pulp.

I still eat whole foods.

Yea, diet is pretty clean - but I don't feel I eat enough plant based foods so was looking to something like this as more of a supplement to my current regime as opposed to using it neat for something like a detox etc as some do.

Here's a link to an online company (no connection!) that sell the boxes of stuff and gives an idea of a weekly shopping list - though looking at it, I reckon I could get it cheaper from Lidl!

There's a lot of fruit based sugar in there - which I suppose is for people who want (need?) a sweet taste, plus I suppose if this is all you were eating, you wouldn't be getting much fat so you'd have to get your energy from somewhere right?  If I did it, I might drop most of the apples!

You're not going to make up for a lack of plant based foods by drinking juice.

IMO, juice is no substitute for real food, and although it shares the micro nutrient profile of the source plants, it is the macro nutrient equivalent of junk food, being primarily made of refined carbohydrate.  It's a full sugar soft drink with added vitamins.
