I've just watched the first series, not massively impressed. Does it get better in the 2nd?

I gave up with this about half way into the first season. Maybe I need to go back and re-visit.

You did gain far too much fat though,I mean, you're not muscular at all, you're just a fat mess.

Second season ramps it up. First season went weird when Ragnar went all crazy, I really disliked him then.

Although the characters have been nicked from history and legend and mixed up, I was very impressed with how accurate the production was, great stuff...apart from the English fighters being portrayed as weak idiots, that part is not accurate!

I think that's probably around when I got tired of it. And also as you mention every time there was a battle with the Britons it was stupidly one sided.

English? You mean the Saxons? 😉😉😉. Historical police.

Love and hate this series at times, but its by far the best looking Viking (Northmen) show out at the moment.

Lagertha is easy on the eye. 😘😘😘

Not really no. The Saxons were in the south, the Norsemen in the north, and the poor Britons squeezed in the middle. At least that's my rudimentary understanding. Unless of course there's a specific reference to them being Saxons within the show.

The Anglo Saxons, along with the Frisians and Jutes, MADE England. Before that this island was a failed Roman colony, the Britons were a total anarchic mix of wild tribes and Romanised landowners and farmers.

The Germanic people were invited here to protect one faction and fight on their behalf, as it turned out the majority of Britons were killed or displaced, pushed into Wales and Cornwall. The new warriors were the same as the Norsemen, only earlier. They made much more of the land than the Britons ever did!

Aethalstan declared himself king of all Aengland after winning the battle of Brunanburh, defeating combined Norse, Irish Gaels, Picts and traitorous Saxons. More than 600 years of Aenglish culture is dismissed as "the dark ages" when in reality it was the making of a true English civilisation. Until William the Bastard carried out a near holocaust after Hastings, creating an elite whose descendants still hold sway today!

In effect William the conk and the Norman elite were vikings in all but name, being descendants of the Vikings who were given land by the French to keep them from invading the rest of france.

This is true, William was a direct descendant of Rollo and "Norman" meant "Northman". The church controlled political system they forced on England was decidedly un-Viking though!

I rant about it a lot, but it makes me sick how England and the Germanic English people are constantly put down, telling children that England began in 1066, that everything England ever did is bad and the myth that this is a Christian nation.
