Watches Automatic/Quartz Whats actually best?
I will be buying a watch in the next weeks but i really cant decide whether i want a Automatic or Quartz, i already realise that the main benefit with Automatics is that they dont need batteries so thats a good point but have heard they are not as accurate as Quartz watches. Btw the Auto costs nearly 1K more but it looks better as the second hand glides round instead of ticking round. Whats your views?

My view is that you started yet another thread about what a 'great businessman' you are as you can now now afford a watch that costs over £1k. Woopee! Bet Branson's shi**ing himself

Im asking a simple question to people who have owned both types of wathces for the pros and cons.

I have sereral 'poor man' autos. Autos wind down after about 2 days, so if they have day and date, you'll be forever twiddling to adjust if you wear the watch infrequently. Takes about 1 to 2 hours to get 2 days charge depending on how much you move your wrist. Ahem.

i like autos because they keep good enough time plus are sort of alive, in that they require your movement to work...

Blu - are you going for a rushmore diamond bezel or is a rhinestone ruby more to your taste? On a serious note, if you're going to spend big money on a watch you should really research more off your own back seeing as you will be spending big money. Took me about 6 months to decide what watch I was going to get.

Quartz - much better at keeping time and no need to wind / wear it due to the battery. Automatic - sweep hand looks nice, appreciation of the engineering. I don't think one is better than the other, they are better than each other at different things..... If you go with the automatic but don't plan to wear it everyday you might want to get a watch winder (a electrically powered box that keeps your watch wound).

I have a quartz tag which i love, minimal maintenance and keeps perfect time (even though it is a fairly basic one). My second hand is jumping four seconds at a time at the moment as it needs a new battery!

They are good watches, feel solid and weigh a good amount. Whatever you do don't get diamonds on it unless you drive a Ferrari.

Lol wont be getting any diamonds not got that sort of money, going for the Omega Seamaster, in automatic aswell had some good reviews even from people off here aswell. And to Shworth if i want to ask about a watch dont be offended, was hardly an arrogent post just wanted some input before i placed my order.

Omega Seamaster ! Im saving for one of those myself, probably going to take me a year to save for it, since i gave up the fags (cigarets to you americans) i have been putting the money away and hoping to buy something nice to keep with it. The seamaster Is a loverly watch, im not going for the 'James Bond' one with all the 007 guff stamped all over it, i prefer the nice plain one with the black dial. Nice looking chunky watch.

Blue_Lagoon3000 Im going for a new one mate, judging by the link you posted youd love the Omega Moonwatch: http://images02.olx.com.ph/ui/2/48/83/17134583_1.jpg Very nice, but i think thats a Speedmaster, i really have my mind set on a Seamaster. They have a pretty new range out, but the cost is way over the odds IMO, i think the fact that they advestised the brand in the bond film pushed the cost of a OMEGA up nicely for them. Got a lot more saving to do so hopefully will be able to go shopping for some time next year.

i have a few quartz and two autos got an auto tag and a longines that can be automatically wound and also manually wound im not being funny but from a personal point of view i would say it depends on the amount you are spending £300 odd i would get a quartz as auto's down there are not of as high quality i recently got the longinest, which is about a £1100 watch, i was bu55ered if i was goign to get a quartz watch at that much money comes down to choice though
