Good shape. But no one here disagreed with you that you can't get in good shape without cardio. Just that it did work as opposed to doing nothing

I never meant that and sorry if you think I did .....

To gain muscle of course you have to resistance train and this helps prevent fat gains

My point was cardio is great for CV fitness but fat loss is down to diet.

Cardio may slightly help with reducing body fat with diet but is very inefficient effort V reward and in some cases too much cardio and exercise in general can be counter productive and create a unnecessary plateau.

I have been a very low body fat before and haven't ever been above 10 % bf all my life and haven't stepped on a running machine in 10 years

Although before my injury I played sport.

See my training gave me my muscle tone and this is all I did NO CV

I know some of you will disagree with this vid : (

I have been inactive over a year and have not gone above 10 % all this achieved 100 % by diet.

So I am a example in myself.

Of course I was weight training in those pictures :)

Agree with a lot of what you said there.
I still find cardio much more productive for fat loss

No worries dude, I've got a sore little finger myself so all good.

I fully support what I think you are trying to say. Going overboard with cardio and calorie restriction too early can be detrimental to fat loss at best and potentially bad for health at worst.

A gradual approach in the kitchen and in the gym is the way to go for a sustained, effective fat loss cycle. No amount of cardio can out do a poor diet.

I personally was taken a back by the headline statement claiming fat loss is solely down to calorie intake and was seeking clarification on your opinion. Instead of clarity the water was muddied further by you appearing to claim different things at different times and denying you ever made certain statements.

It's all good bro. Muscletalk is a great source of info for us newbies so stick around and pick up a few tips.

Maybe  you are correct and I should stop making so many statements and ask more questions : )

I am looking to compete again in the over 40's and always have trouble with shoulder domination any tips on how to prevent this ( I rarely trained shoulders ) ?

Any tips would be great :)

Well this escalated a bit!

As I said about five pages back, the fat started coming off nicely after a few weeks, just needed to fan the flames a bit and be patient. Unfortunately my back packed up completely and coupled with plantar fasciitis hitting me hard I had a layoff over xmas.

Back on it now and I know what works, trying to not deadlift at all to keep my back going but I am working on squats again.

Now, I'm doing cardio fasted but is doing my weights workouts still best fasted for fat loss? Would a shot of BCAAs change much?

I wouldn't say so, end of the day I'd say it's more about fitting it into your day, rather than worrying about exact timing, or a few BCAAs (which some argue are little more than flavoured water, others say they do make a difference to recovery).

Re your PF, have you ever tried foam rollering your calf, only a 5 passovers twice a week. That's helping with a flare up I've had for a while.

Hi gingernut - I got to see a consultant a month ago, she thinks my calves are shortening and I need to keep them stretched throughout the day. So your suggestion of using rollers sounds good. Apparently my gait has been adapting to my tightening calves without me realising, when I put on the mass of weight a year ago the system my body had built up collapsed and the pain and inflammation had to go somewhere.

There are some good rollers at my gym, after cardio tomorrow Ill have a go at it, thanks.

I'm 30lbs down from my start weight and my only advice is forget all the fancy supplements with all the bells and whistles and focus on having a well rounded diet that puts you in a strong deficit (I eat at a 700kcal deficit).

Brace yourself, foam rollers can be slightly bracing, especially IT band rolling

I hated it because I thought it had to be done for quite a long time. The 5 passover recommend has really got me going with it. It doesn't have to be a competition so long as you do it.
