    interesting find.
could be a good buy? relocation sounds realistic as my sister sold her cafe worth 130k for 80k when she went to spain even though she could have had a manager run it
maybe this is one of those strange business decisions!

    Calm down son!

Could get a business grant and start up loan. I know next to nothing about managing a business though, I imagine I'd go bankrupt after 6 months!!

Nothing contributes so much to tranquilizing the mind as a steady purpose - a point on which the soul may fix its intellectual eye.

you could buy it and strip it of all the gear and make money, if you were that way inclined (ruthless).

Went to have a look at this gym today. What an awesome place with a really good vibe, High quality machines and ample free weights.
Does anyone have any good info on getting a business loan - especially those who have taken one to purchase their own gym.

    Many Thanks

did you go to have a look on the back of this posting?

if so that would be quality if you bought it. as for business start up, look locally for government organisations which offer advice they will point you in the right direction for seeking loans, grants etc.

Yes it was off the back of this posting that I went to have a look. Had a look at a gym about 10 mins from me 6 months ago but was not the right thing. This one is about 45 mins away but worth the travel. If i'm going to take it further I will need to go through the books carefully but seems to have a good number of loyal customers and good deals with a supplement company who sponsor a guy who trains there. Really liked the feel of the place - well kept, clean tidy and all the free weights were put back which means members respect the place!! lol

600 seems low in terms of members, but I'm guessing they turn up more than average members?

It says this was due to increase in Jan - new numbers should be out now then, and you should be able to create a new "run rate" turnover and profit for 2008/9.

Just saying for anyone looking at it.

Asking price £130K, £250K of equipment. Yeah right. Maybe £250K at original prices but for example the Model C Rowing machines (ex gym) were probably £900 new and yet only worth about £400 max each now.

TBH £130K turnover with a £25K lease and rates etc to pay as well as staff costs doesn't seem that much to me. Especially if paying back on a £130K loan as well.

That's my gym!!!! Excellent gym, easily the best in Yeovil. The owner built it after getting pi55ed off with the low quality gear in the local gyms. It's a top spec facility.

Didn't know the guy was looking to sell, he's just installed a new office and hasn't even finished painting it. He's turning the old office into a shop. We were talking about it last week. I'll speak with him probably Monday (Hurt my arm so not training tomorrow) and find out what the craic is...

Am really really surprised about this, he's never intimated disatisfaction with owning it. Even opened it all day bank holidays too.

It's a small town. Most of the prentend trainers use Canons. I was surprised there was 600 memberships running!!

If you like it and your mates like it too, you should get a few together and buy it.

    130k loan split 5 ways is cheap..ish.

Hey mate - it is a quality gym - Please don't say anything to the owner as I'm not sure he wanted it public knowledge that it was for sale at the moment.
Very jealous that you get to train there!!!!

If you do buy it, I assume I get free membership/v.i.p treatment if ever I train there

He's a good guy too. Thing is, it's only a matter of time before someone approaches him as it's on the interweb. I'd heard through the local grapevine that it had been sold already, though that was in March.

Membership is not expensive either. 30 quid month for month or 25 quid a month if you sign up to a year.
