What the ......DOMS.......

So I am an Asthma sufferer with it under control and have been doing "baby workouts" for around 6 weeks, in between the odd rest day and tiredness.

Each time I have trained I have been doing push pull regimen, but including leg press every visit, on a light wieght.

Last week I decided to do a "fitness compound test" and managed 15 press ups and 3 sets of squats with 10kg each side, after a 20 minute stationery bike.

Is that all I hear you cry!???? YEP that is ALL!

BUT - expecting ZERO pain I have been unable to get up , sit on the toilet or walk downstairs without looking like I am made of wood.

What on earth is happening ........ is this just age... Surely someones Grandma can do what I did and experience no DOMS!?!?!

Dehydrated? Insufficient protein? Lack of electrolytes maybe?

    Hmmm that might be interesting.

Did not know Dehydration causes extreme pain, still there today last time I had this I had over cooked some seriously heavy weight.

I have been ok with potatoes, and carbs and also greens in a blend I make... so perhaps it is just plain old water maybe... I had no idea. Thanks for the note mate.

If you've not done squats for a long time then even with a light weight it will cause DOMS.

Dehydration will not cause pain, but severely impacts your recovery.

The soreness you describe occurs more with volume than weight.  Anytime you increase the volume significantly you will get DOMs.  BCAAs pre and during your session will help, but not really necessary unless it's a real problem.

Another tip is wearing light compression to bed.  After a leg hypertrophy session, I wear near full length leg compression overnight.  Stop the dreaded midnight cramps, plus the increased blood flow speeds up recovery.  You'll feel like you have new legs by the morning =D

Where does one get full leg compression such items of magic.

Interesting such severe pain, shows that the seated leg press machine clearly does nothing to prime the legs for some further action.

Very strange, good note about volume ...

Just get some standard compression bandages from Boots or the supermarket.  You can cut them to length.  You don't want compression sleeves as they will provide a bit too much compression, just some light compression to increase blood flow.
