G.I Index Basmati 58 White normal 69 White long grain 56 Brown 50 I have read that the G.I of brown basmati rice has yet to be tested but it is presumed that it will be lower than normal basmati rice and thus the lowest of all the rices. Its interesting to see that normal white long grain rice is actually lower GI than white basmati.

Hmm, where did you get this information from? Everything I have read has put Basmati rice as having a lower GI than brown and white rice. mcl ORIGINAL: phda G.I Index Basmati 58 White normal 69 White long grain 56 Brown 50 I have read that the G.I of brown basmati rice has yet to be tested but it is presumed that it will be lower than normal basmati rice and thus the lowest of all the rices. Yes I agree I was under the impression that basmati was the best rice. Did a quick search on google and came up with the following information from the link below. It could be that there is a differential between long grain white rice i.e uncle bens and normal white rice which is the stubby stuff thats made into rice pudding and rissotos. http://www.carbs-information.com/glycemic-index.htm#gi

there's really not a great difference between the two.Unless you are really serious about your diet,ie.getting ready for a show,I wouldn't worry about it.
