Whey & High Blood Pressure ? ? ?

Fellas,

I've got high blood pressure, diagnosed with it about 10 months ago, I have been put on 2 sets of tablets to control this, and since then stopped weight training until my blood pressure had returned to normal and also stopped my consupmtion of whey...

Now my blood pressure has returned to normal my doc and my specialist have both told me I can continue to lift as per normal..... Question is, can I start to consume whey again now im lifting, or should I not as im taking medication ????

I know I should ask the doc but don't think a question like this warrants booking an appointment to see him and taking up his time...

I've done my own research on the net and have found several websites that say whey actually helps in reducing blood pressure, but not sure if I trust them...

Any of you on here have any idea ????

I can't see why there'd be any link between whey and blood pressure.

It's a healthy way to get protein, is it not?
Arguably better than ingesting animal fat in the process.
As John says, can't see why there'd be a link.

    Probably is ok mate.

But check with your GP regarding kidney functioning. If your high BP is either caused by, or in turn has caused, kidney disease then you will need to keep to a low protein diet.

They will, at some point in the process of prescribing your BP meds have tested your GFR (Glomerular Filtration Rate) which indicates kidney functioning. Check what it is.

What meds are you on mate?

Im on 10mg of Ramipril and 5 mg of Amlodipine

I have had several tests done on my kidneys already, infact I was discharge yesterday from a kidney specialist with a clean bill of health stating that my kidneys are fine !!!

A low protein diet would be sh!t for obvious reasons, my GP is well aware of my hobby for lifting and has told me that I can continue to lfift as per normal as my BP is well in check now

similar meds to myself - was on ramipril for ages then switched to cozaar as the ramipril was giving me the dry cough. amlodipine makes me feel tired and headache-y though, so only take it if BP is very high...

if kidneys are ok then go ahaead with the whey, it really wont affect BP negatively

    good luck mate

What about the massive amounts of sweetener and other gunk shiit that go into most whey proteins. Surely that has a knock on effect.
