    Welcome to MT.

Before looking to a supplement you should get your diet checked over in the diet forum. We can't suggest supplementing [your diet] if we don't know if it requires supplementation.

As an aside, most novices to the training scene have awful diets, so their efforts in the diet forum will likely yield a far greater impact on their physique than any supplement.

Protein supplementation aids your diet, you need to get loads of protein down you on a daily basis, a good guideline is to get at least 1g of protein per 1lbs of your bodyweight on a daily basis mate, eg 180lbs person takes in 180g protein everyday. You take protein supplements when you need them for a quick top up of protein, you dont have to take it x amount everyday it will depend what the rest of your diets like.
