Who doubled their lifts in first year training?

i certainly didnt!
as far as i remember it took me around 2 years perhaps more. i started deadlifting 60kg, benching 50kg and squating 60kg.... and those are one rep maxes im talking about. obviously i wasnt big, i was like 10 stone or something!
now im 15.5 stone and lifting 3 times the weights i started on for 1rm.

anyway, the reason i ask is because there is a guy i have been training, and i am really impressed with what he is lifting after his first year, i got him into training last year and he has trained 3-4 times per week since. i made up a basic diet for him to stick to so he didnt get put off by too much detail.
i used to train with him for his first 6 months and now i train somewhere else but i showed him the ropes basically.
he has doubled his lifts on almost everything, he is very straight and really disrespects anyone who takes gear cause apparrently the gains arent real, yawn! but he likes all the pro's, interesting position to take but either way the point is i recon he hasnt touched gear.

he was about 15.2 stone, 5,10", 23yrs old when he started, now he is the same weight, just a slight shift in bodyfat/ muscle ratio.
his deadlift has gone from 80k to 160k, bench from 50k to 100k, squat from 60k to 120k.

now i have trained a few people and seen a lot of different results, the first year is always rapid for gaining. i've watched some idiots jump in on gear without a clue, they have maybe just doubled their weights..... but this guy seems to have naturally done it. i cant remember myself seeing anyone do this so i thought i would ask here and see if anyone else has doubled their weights in the first year???

btw, im not bitter or jealous of this guy i think he has done great and just wanted to share it and see if he is making freaky strength gains or if this is normal, personally i think his gains are well above average and before now i would have thought impossible without gear.

anyone?

I'm pretty sure I more than doubled my weights in a year of serious training, but then again I wasn't strong to start with.

    5'9
    71kg
    Deadlift-165kg
    Military press-65kg

    Which lifts?

I have been training seriously for just over 6 months now and have doubled most of my lifts. Newbie trainers like myself start at pretty low weights so (IMO) it isnt difficult or unusual to double the weight inside a year.

I think I doubled my 1RM in my first year, but they were all pretty low to start with, I think my 1RM on the bench was 40kg, squat was 60kg and deadlift about 70kg.

Yeah i was more talking about compound lifts like the ones i listed,

smaller weights like dumbells i could imagione would take longer to go from 20k to 40k for example.

i honestly cant remember how long it took me, i do remember that the jump between 60k to 100k took a while and lots of work and lots of small progressions.

i think the thing that is standing out to me is that he hasnt jumped from 30k to 60k in lifts, its because he is bigger at 15 stone and starting on bigger weights so the jump up he is going to weight over 100kilos which is a respectable weight for a beginner and thats probably why its seems like a lot,

you were probably more like me, in that you started on small weights and anything over 100kilo never mind 160k would seem like it weighs a ton in your first year of training!

ive gone from 50kg 3X10 bench press to 80kg 3X10 bench press in about 5 months on a cut. i havent even been trying that hard to up the weights so it must be possible, maybe its about having the diet or something i dont know.

yeah i agree with all that,

when i think about it, i started on 30k in the house and doubled that in a few months. im just comparin myself to his 100kilo plus weights which actually took me a good while till i was using them.

we all start at different levels i suppose although the princible will be the same that we make our best gains to start when our body is adjusting then after it plateau's, all gains come in small managable steps.

either way he is lifting good weights for his first year, actually his first year bodybuilding, i have remembered that the guy has messed about with weights for years in his house and uneducated training in gyms infrequently, so that also explains a lot, he must have good genetics though because some people never see those weights natuarally, even after a lot of years!
