Why Kill So Many Intersting Threads?

Why are so many threads on here cut short just when they are getting interesting, juicy and getting somewhere.

I can fully understand the reasoning of 'read the rules and don't join if you don't like it', but it is a free forum and we are subjected to a lot of advertising, some of which have products that the owners themselves of this site think are sh1te.

If there is any racial, sexually perverse or extreme views which inflict painful offense, then yes block the thread. But so many are cut short just at the mention of religion or politics, and this is in a section that is under the heading of General converstaion.

Another question I'd like to add, is why so many forums such as this kill threads but then leave it for it to be read if stumbled on in future. Why isn't it then cleared away into the ether if it has caused so much offense and is not acceptable?

Just wandering?

Not quite sure what your point is. Religious and political threads are usually locked because often members can't discuss sensibly, tempers get heated, posts get abusive, negativity creeps in, threads get locked. It's far simpler to nip things in the bud and pre-emptivly lock them.

You mention it's a free site but then go onto to talk about the advertising. Not sure where you're heading there but what will say is the forum owners make the rules up and members need to adhere to them.

Finally, threads are often locked with comments explaining why and left up in the hope that other members may see why they're locked and understand the posting guidelines. That's not always the case though, obviously.

Topics on politics and religion can divide the forums creating factions and can also promote attacks on individuals. Makes life easier for mods if this rule is in place, it would be a never ending task if politics was allowed!

I think it's been pretty good of late, we've been able to discuss most topics until they inevitably end up straying off course.

Not quite sure what your point is. Pretty obvious I would have thought. Religious and political threads are usually locked because often members can't discuss sensibly, tempers get heated, posts get abusive, negativity creeps in, threads get locked. It's far simpler to nip things in the bud and never let the really insightful discussions that do happen flourish and lock everything due to MOD laziness and pre-emptivly lock them.

You mention it's a free site but then go onto to talk about the advertising free for us, therefore very easily accessible to every man and his dog. Not sure where you're heading there not heading anywhere mate, thought it was a clear and valid question but what will say is the forum owners make the rules up and members need to adhere to them.

Finally, threads are often locked with comments explaining why and left up in the hope that other members may see why they're locked and understand the posting guidelines. That's not always the case though, obviously.

I find you anser to what was more a question of curiosity, as very aggressive indeed. Your answer is extremely on what I would say is on the back foot and prickly.
Do you always speak this rudely to members who ask non offensive questions?

I think you are getting a bit carried away with this mate. LMC was not aggressive at all. If you don't like that certain subjects aren't allowed then don't post. Ive been on a number of forums that allow religious and political posts and it always degenerates into arguments which drive away the decent posters.

I don't usually agree with any kind of censorship but this forum is here for us to discuss training, diet, supps etc and despite the fact that many members seem to head directly to the "General" section to create a thread whenever they have a problem in their life, I feel it is better suited for a bit of banter or discussion of light topics like music and sport.

Reading threads that are debating complex subjects where those participating are happy to give their opinions despite often having little knowledge of said subjects fuels misanthropic feelings within me. I've often read a thread where I've had an opinion but I've kept it to myself because I know nobody cares and my opinion doesn't matter in a thread on this forum (this post is an exception ).

I know what you mean. General has got depressing recently, it's turned into an agony aunts forum full of whingers (Im aware of the irony, thanks).

Every other thread is either someone going on about anti-depressants, someone with a problem in their life, or Packup Pete asking a question - Im sure that guys a Nigerian scammer phishing for details. Im just waiting on him starting the inevitable thread asking my mothers maiden name, and which hospital I was born in.

Can't decide if this thread is interesting, defaulting to 'kill' mode.
