Personally for a number of reasons - for my sport - MA & Rugby, for general strength and for controlling my bodyfat - I'll never be a skinny 12 stoner so if I'm gonna weigh 17 stone then I'd prefer it to be 17 stone of muscle.

you left out the "vegans have a reputation of being skinny, so i decided to get big to break stereotypes", lol!

My main reason was honestly just to bulk up, but now since i've gained 30kg i am just training for strength. But i love it as well, so I voted for the "love" reason

i want to be big and hard so i can wear £100.00 shellsuits and wear my cap backwards and walk down the street without having the p1ss taken out of me for being more "bling" than you lot. and then i want to be a 'G' or a muscle head bouncer, so i am using my weight training to bulk up whilst working being an ar*ehole.

    so there.

I've just realised I should have asked people to subscribe to this poll to get the info i'm looking for. DOH!!
    quote:
Theres a high proportion of people who lifts weights because they were too thin -- 35%.

Of those people, do ye think there is enough information available at the moment for people trying to "correct" this.
Are ye looking for more info about this, or do ye think it is now resolved?
Was Muscletalk the first place you looked or did you come here because of its reputation?

    quote:
Also, the love of weightlifting is 23%

Of those people, do ye currently compete?
Do ye think there is a lot of info directed toward simply lifting for the love of it?
What do ye think an online site should contain which would enhance the enjoyment you get from the game?

    quote:
Finally the last high proportion is people who simply wanted to shape up

    Have ye achieved that?
How long did it take and why?
Do ye think it could have been achieved faster if there were better information, and more easily available?

I started in the gym in gerneral 2 years ago becuase I was an 89 Kg (195 lb) fat bloater through too many weekends on the piss and late night kebabs.

Been out of the gym for a while (over a year) due to injury/traveling but kept my diet clean. Im just about to start hitting the weights hard after the thumbs-up from my chiropractor and at 65 kg ( 143 lb) I'm probably smaller than I wanted to be when I started out in the begining but anything beats being a fatty, I just can't believe this little body was hiding under under that huge dough ball.

I don't reckon I would have achieved it any faster, I think it comes down to motivation and effort. If you want something bad enough then you'll go looking for what info there is, thats what I did.

How embarrasing - 65 kg lol,I reckon I weigh the same as some of these guys legs!![:I]

    Why be embarassed?
Their bodies may be bigger than yours, but who is putting in 110% effort(well probably they are but you catch my drift!)

    Dan..

I started.. (a long time ago).. just too look "normal".. (unfortunately I still do .. [:I]).. because I was very underweight at school with all the repercussions that brought. I think there is very little effort/education available in general for people that want to build themselves up.. all that seems to be available in the "general media" is how to loose weight. Gaining wise.. what little exists is nearly all the kind of ridiculous claims that will only cause people looking to gain to become more frustrated/depressed.

Of course now there is the internet.. and sites like this.. so things are better.. but you still have to hunt for such information.

Yea, I know what you mean GTM. Personally I've always been on the other side of the fence. Very lucky for naturally gaining muscle, but also for gaining fat.
It never even occured to me till I was about 18, that some people tried to gain weight just as other people try to lose it! I suppose cause of the media, I thought that everyone was trying to get thinner. But its not like that.

Theres a lot of info for people who want to drop it, not so for people who want to gain it.
Anyways, hopefully when I've a bit of free time, I'm gonna make my own site - the reason I'm conducting all these irritating polls! - with customizable routines and diets with built in algorithims to make sure you stay on the right track without having to follow the exact plan but I'm gonna keep it free & adfree etc since it'll be on my college server I won't have to pay for it, so why charge people?

I know a fair bit about BB at this rate but I'm just looking for input to see what people want atm. I was thinking a good way to "proof check" it, would be to write an article, post it in the relevant forum, see what people think, let them debate it for a bit, and if it doesn't differ too much from what I personally think, then tweak it to the conclusions of that debate.

I know that all sounds a bit optimistic, but I figure - the only way you WILL fail is if you don't try.
Anyway, a pretty helpful reply there so thanks.
