Would you like to be immortal?

Would you like to be immortal?

Pros:
Obviously you never die.
Never grow old and get all the inevitable aches and pains.
Health never deteriorates.
Same with your looks. (Assuming you have some to start with.  )
Don't have to fear death/the unknown.

Cons:
Got to continually see loved ones you've built up great relationships with get old and croak it.
Forever having to "move on" and start a complete new family. (Some might see this as a pro lol).

Which would you prefer? The natural orders of things?
Or if there was an immortality button right in front of you now would you press it? Knowing that you can never undo it.

When i think of all the cool stuff i have done in my life already it just depresses me because I realise how little i have left to experience. I guess with the way things move forward in a millennia you would be pretty bored therefore it would probably beneficial just to sleep for a few hundred years so you can just come back when things have moved on.

i'd do it if there was a way out, i.e separating the head from spine = end of life

I think it would be very hard to be a caring/loving person though

Imortality would be great to begin with. Eventually I suppose it would become lonely and boring. Interview with a vampire explored the idea. Of course to be immortal you would also have to be immune to disease, illness and have suoer healing abilities otherwise your imortality would just become endless pain and suffering without release.

I would like to have the potential to live forever but with the option of being able to end my life at some point once I'd had enough, which surely you would eventually.

An idea that appeals more is to go into hypersleep (like in Aliens) and be woken up every 30 years or so to find out what's happened in the world of politics, science etc.

Some aspects would be difficult . Like being married to a pensioner and probably losing the buzz of fear that things like skydiving would give you.

But i definitely would.. you could clame to be a jesus like figure and possibly being world peace lol

Given most religion views of 'afterlife's' being a form of immortality it then suggests we don't want that either. Ergo when it's time it's time. Leave a mark behind.

My mum is very religious and we were talking about the old times recently and I asked her if she'd like to go back to her 20's and she was like No Way! She's 74 and I think she's quite looking forward to meeting her maker . Maybe if she was an atheist she might think differently though.
